Job description

We are seeking a Sr. Application Engineer to join our inside sales team to serve as the critical link between customer requirements and our engineering solutions. Your primary responsibility will be to analyze complex customer specifications (RFPs/RFQs) and translate them into compelling, highly accurate technical proposals.

You will work closely with the Engineering and Sales teams to ensure that our proposed solutions-ranging from VPX/SOSA/VME/cPCI chassis designs to custom electro-mechanical packaging-are articulated clearly, competitively, and in full compliance with industry standards., The Sr. Application Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Specification Analysis: Thoroughly reviewing customer-provided technical specifications, drawings, and statements of work (SOW) to identify core requirements and potential design challenges.
  • Proposal Development: Leading the creation of technical proposals, converting raw engineering data and preliminary designs into professional, persuasive documents that highlight Atrenne's value proposition.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Interviewing Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in Engineering and Operations to gather technical details, cost estimates, and project timelines for inclusion in proposals.
  • Compliance Mapping: Create compliance matrices to ensure every customer requirement is addressed and validated against ISO9001/AS9100 and ITAR/EAR regulations.
  • Content Library Management: Maintain and update a repository of technical descriptions, white papers, and standardized "boilerplate" content to improve proposal efficiency and consistency.
  • Quality Assurance: Proofread and edit technical documents for clarity, grammar, and adherence to company branding and formatting standards.

Requirements

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Technical Writing, Communications, or a related field with 5+ years of experience in technical writing, specifically within the aerospace, defense, or high-tech manufacturing industries.

  • Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with electro-mechanical packaging, ruggedized electronics, or bussing architectures (VPX, VME, SOSA) is highly preferred.
  • Analytical Skills: Exceptional ability to read and interpret complex scientific/technical * Key Skills & Attributes:
  • Synthesis: The ability to take "engineering speak" and turn it into a clear, benefit-driven narrative for customer decision-makers.
  • Detail Orientation: A meticulous eye for detail, ensuring no specification or compliance requirement is overlooked.
  • Project Management: Proven ability to manage complex document projects with tight deadlines and multiple contributors.
  • COMPUTER SKILLS Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Project Management software. Experience with SalesForce and proposal management software is a plus.
  • Mental Focus: High level of sustained concentration required for reading and analyzing dense technical data.
  • Environment: Typically a quiet, professional office setting.
  • Physical: Regularly required to sit and use a computer for extended periods.

Benefits & conditions

This position is eligible for a hybrid work model that incorporates a mixture of in-office and remote work in an employee's schedule.

The target pay range for this role is $125,000 - 135,000 per year and eligible to participate in the Atrenne Sales Incentive Plan.

This position involves access to commodities, software, technical data or technology that is subject to U.S. export control requirements. Any job offer made will be contingent upon the applicant's capacity to perform this role in compliance with U.S. export control restrictions.
