Job description

As a Senior Principal Engineer - I&O Automation, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing automation strategies across Linux/Unix, Network, and Platform Services. You will partner with infrastructure and architecture teams to identify automation opportunities that improve efficiency, reliability, and scalability. You combine technical expertise with leadership, collaboration, and a continuous improvement mindset.

You will report to the Manager, I&O Delivery & Process and be located at Cranberry Township, PA. This is a hybrid role with 3 days a week in office and two remote. Relocation assistance is not available for this role., * Develop the automation roadmap for all infrastructure platforms.

  • Evaluate existing operational processes and identify areas where automation can reduce manual effort, increase reliability, and improve service quality.
  • Champion automation best practices, standards, and governance across Infrastructure & Operations teams.
  • Lead automation plans from concept through delivery.
  • Design, build, and maintain automation solutions using tools such as PowerShell, Power Automate, Python, Ansible, Terraform, Morpheus, or similar technologies.
  • Ensure reusable, modular, and scalable automation patterns that align with enterprise architecture standards.
  • Communicate progress, risks, and results of automation plans to leadership and technical teams.
  • Ensure maintenance of documentation for all automations, including workflow diagrams, runbooks, and test plans.
  • Establish monitoring and reporting mechanisms to track automation performance and benefits (e.g., time saved, error reduction).
  • Ensure that automation solutions follow security, compliance, and audit standards.
  • Provide mentorship and training to engineers on automation techniques and toolsets.

Requirements

  • BS in Information Systems or similar degree or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering, automation engineering, DevOps, or related technical roles.
  • Hands-on experience scripting in PowerShell, Python, or similar languages.
  • Experience across variety of platforms such as Windows/Linux, Backup, Storage, and Network.
  • Familiarity with virtualization, cloud platforms, and container technologies (VMware, Azure, Kubernetes).
  • Facilitate understanding across multiple teams to ensure automation standards, patterns, and modules are adopted.
  • Influence teams to adopt automation-first approaches by demonstrating efficiency gains, reliability improvements, and measurable outcomes.
  • 1+ years of experience with automation/orchestration tools such as Morpheus, Ansible, Terraform, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or equivalent.

Benefits & conditions

We are committed to transparency and equity in all of our people practices. The base salary range for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $116,800 to $146,000 per year.
