Job description

We are supporting a large-scale cloud platform engineering initiative for a client. This is not a traditional DevOps or application engineering role. This role focuses on building and governing Google Cloud Platform (GCP) environments at scale - establishing secure foundations, enabling platform capabilities, and supporting internal engineering teams. You will play a key role in designing and implementing cloud landing zones, identity models, and infrastructure automation frameworks that will support enterprise-wide adoption of GCP. What You'll Be Doing Year 1 Focus (Current Phase)

  • Design and build GCP landing zones (org, folders, projects)
  • Implement IAM, security policies, and governance controls
  • Develop Terraform-based infrastructure modules
  • Enable secure platform services and automation frameworks
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure deployment
  • Support event-driven and internal platform services
  • Automate operational workflows using Python or scripting

Year 2 Evolution (Future State)

  • Support expansion into containerized platforms (GKE / Kubernetes)

  • Enable scalable compute and application workloads

  • Contribute to AI and data platform capabilities

  • Help scale platform usage across multiple engineering teams, Modern Engineering Expectations We are looking for engineers who are comfortable leveraging AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity. This includes:

  • Tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, or similar

  • Using AI for:

  • Code generation

  • Infrastructure templates

  • Test creation

  • Documentation

  • Pull request creation and review

Role Breakdown

  • 70% Infrastructure Engineering (Terraform, GCP, IAM)
  • 30% Development & Automation (Python, scripting, tooling)

What This Role Is NOT To ensure alignment, this role is not a fit for candidates who are primarily:

  • Data engineers (BigQuery, Spark, ETL-heavy roles)
  • Application developers
  • DevOps engineers without platform ownership experience

Why This Role?

  • Be part of a ground-up GCP platform build
  • Work on enterprise-scale cloud architecture
  • Influence how cloud is adopted across a major organization
  • Engage with modern engineering practices, including AI-assisted workflows

Requirements

  • Strong hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

  • Deep experience with Terraform as a primary IaC tool

  • Experience designing or managing:

  • GCP org / folder / project structures

  • IAM roles, policies, and service accounts

  • Experience implementing security and governance frameworks

  • Experience building or supporting CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure

  • Proficiency with Python or scripting for automation

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in enterprise or regulated environments (financial services a plus)
  • Experience building or contributing to cloud landing zones
  • Exposure to platform engineering or internal developer platforms
  • Familiarity with GCP networking (Shared VPC, connectivity models)
