Job description
This Lead Software Engineer role sits at the intersection of engineering, finance, and operations. The role is responsible for providing hands-on technical leadership across a complex portfolio of custom-built and vendor-integrated systems, while modernizing legacy platforms into secure, scalable, cloud-native solutions on AWS. The individual in this role will work closely with Finance stakeholders, architecture, infrastructure, security, and data teams to translate business needs into durable technical solutions. Typical Responsibilities - this is both a hands-on and technical leadership role:

60-65% Software analysis, design, and development for new features, system enhancements, integrations, and modernization initiatives across Finance systems

20-25% Technical leadership activities including architecture reviews, mentoring and coaching engineers, unblocking complex issues, improving CI/CD pipelines, and embedding test automation, security, and data integrity controls

10-15% Production support, operational readiness, and continuous improvement efforts, including issue investigation, process hardening, technical debt reduction, and collaboration with Finance partners during critical finance business cycles
Pay: $140,000
Requirements
6-8+ years of professional software engineering experience in complex, multi-system environments Strong backend development experience with Java and JavaScript/TypeScript Hands-on experience building, deploying, and operating applications on AWS Proven ability to provide hands-on technical leadership while still contributing code Experience owning solutions across the full SDLC (design, development, integration, testing, deployment) Strong focus on data integrity, testability, security, and auditability, especially in financially sensitive or regulated systems Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines with automated testing and quality controls Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions, including BA/QA-style validation when needed Experience working in Agile delivery environments Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
Experience modernizing legacy platforms (e.g., Grails or similar frameworks) Working knowledge of Python for automation, scripting, or data-related tasks AWS certifications (Developer or Architect) Experience building systems supporting finance, billing, invoicing, payments, or ERP integrations Exposure to regulated, audit-heavy environments (finance, accounting, compliance-driven systems) Experience embedding security scanning, test automation, and data controls directly into pipelines Experience using AI-assisted development tools responsibly to improve delivery and quality
