Job description

The Systems Technician assists with the assembly, documentation, and testing of new and existing instruments and equipment designed by Exact Sciences for use with in vitro diagnostic tests. The Systems Technician works closely with electrical, mechanical, and software engineers, and other systems technicians to build and troubleshoot test fixtures, prototype modules and instruments, while providing feedback on issues encountered and suggestions for improvement., Assemble and test fixtures, prototypes, and instruments.

  • Troubleshoot bugs/failures/issues with electrical and mechanical instruments and equipment.
  • Execute and track instrument and equipment experiments under direction of engineers or manager.
  • Document results of tests, instrument status, and other issues to others.
  • Maintain organized inventory of laboratory spare parts, components, fasteners and hardware, and lab tools and equipment.
  • Coordinate periodic equipment calibration with Metrology.
  • Assist engineers with procurement of needed standard and custom components.
  • Ability to learn and effectively utilize Exact Sciences computer applications such as Agile and SAP.

  • Attend work regularly and reliably.

Requirements

  • Ability to work nights and/or weekends.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds for approximately 5% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 50% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to operate laboratory instruments and equipment, up to 8 hours per day.
  • Ability to comply with any applicable personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Ability and means to travel between Madison locations., * Associates degree in a science or technology field; or high school degree/general education diploma and 2 years of relevant experience in lieu of Associates degree.
  • 2+ years of experience with assembly, test, and repair of electro-mechanical systems.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical part and assembly drawings.
  • Proficient with mechanical tools and basic mechanical measurement tools.
  • Proficient with electrical tools for wiring and soldering.
  • Basic understanding of electrical circuits and diagrams, including use of common electrical measurement tools such as multimeters and oscilloscope.
  • Basic computer skills to include Internet navigation, Email usage, and Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation., * Experience reading electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Experience documenting and editing electrical wiring diagrams, preferably using Solidworks Electrical.
  • Basic understanding of NEC and NFPA electrical standards.
