Job description
AECOM is seeking a GIS Specialist II to be based in Houston, TX to support our Water Resources practice. In this role you will focus primarily on GIS tasks related to flood, coastal, wastewater, and port engineering. The successful candidate will coordinate with other members of the GIS team and various project managers while working on multiple concurrent projects in a collaborative work environment.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and associated software to produce, display, and analyze geographic information
- Develop and maintain databases, reports, and mapping
- Create, organize, manipulate, and retrieve GIS data for reporting, analysis, and presentation purposes
- Perform quality assurance of GIS data and associated graphic components
- Use concepts, practices, and procedures to extract and provide GIS data to clients
- Lead project specific tasks while working closely with the project team to meet client deadlines
- Maintain an effective and frequent line of communication amongst team members and clients
- Spatial data collection, creation, conversion, and editing
- Custom GIS development and automation
- GIS data interpretation and analysis, including rasters
- Process documentation
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Geography, Environmental Science, Natural Resources Management, Hydrology, or other related field with a strong emphasis in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and two plus years of professional GIS experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education (Masters degree in relative field can be be in lieu of two years of work experience)
- A strong understanding of ESRI ArcGIS products including ArcGIS Pro.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with the environmental processes that drive flooding and coastal engineering issues within the state of Texas.
- Experience in watershed modeling and delineating floodplains from engineering models
- Actively working towards or possess a current GISP Certification
- Proficiency in managing web-based GIS applications (Experience Builder, dashboards)
- General understanding of relational database organization, design, and functionality
- Proficiency in automating geospatial process using ArcPy or Model Builder
- Demonstrated knowledge of cartographic design and production concepts and principles
- Experience with a wide variety of spatial data (processing of terrains, demographic data, environmental data, etc) and an understanding (or ability to research) where to gather said data.
- Ability to track production efforts on multiple projects to the standard set out by the task lead or project manager
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and willingness to learn about a variety of GIS skills and engineering topics
- Excellent time management and communication skills
Benefits & conditions
Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The range for this position is $50000 to $70000.
