Caterpillar is seeking a Senior or Lead Salesforce OnPoint Marketing Automation Product Owner to own the delivery, scalability, and ongoing optimization of Salesforce Marketing Cloud capabilities across the enterprise.
This role is part of the OnPoint Marketing Services team, focused on standing up Dealer Business Units, provisioning Salesforce Marketing Cloud instances (as needed), and ensuring reliable, scalable platform delivery. The Product Owner partners closely with dedicated support teams, Digital Product Managers, and delivery teams to ensure the platform is implemented effectively, adopted broadly, and continuously improved.
What You Will Do:
Platform Ownership (Salesforce Marketing Cloud)
- Serve as Product Owner and subject matter expert for Salesforce Marketing Cloud capabilities, including: Email Studio, Journey Builder, Automation Studio, Mobile (SMS/WhatsApp) .
- Define the marketing platform capabilities necessary to provide a personalized experience and manage the development of those platforms
- Partner with engineering, architecture, and enablement teams to ensure stable, scalable platform delivery.
Product Ownership & Delivery
- Own the platform roadmap and Product Backlog; prioritize work based on business value, delivery readiness, and program commitments.
- Act as the primary decision-maker for backlog sequencing, scope trade-offs, and feature readiness.
- Translate business requirements into epics and features to form well-defined user stories deliverable within a single sprint.
- Establish and maintain standards such as Definition of Ready and Definition of Done to ensure consistent delivery quality.
Agile Execution & Communication
- Actively participate in Agile ceremonies (daily standup, refinement, sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives).
- Inspect completed work each sprint; accept/reject deliverables based on defined requirements and acceptance criteria.
- Provide transparent updates on progress, risks, decisions, and dependencies to stakeholders and leadership.
Requirements
Business Analysis: Knowledge of business analysis and the set of tasks, techniques and tools required to identify business needs; ability to recommend solutions that deliver value to stakeholders.
Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
Software Change Request Management: Knowledge of software change request management; ability to manage software product change requests from customers, prospective customers, vendors, and internal staff.
Software Engineering: Knowledge of software engineering; ability to deliver new or enhanced fee-based software products.
Software Problem Management: Knowledge of strategies, practices and tools for resolving software problems; ability to manage software problems in installed software products. .
Considerations For Top Candidates:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Marketing, Communications, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience managing a Salesforce Marketing Cloud environment with hands-on knowledge of core components.
- Experience as a Product Owner, Product Manager, Business Architect, or similar role.
- Experience working in Agile delivery environments.
- Experience partnering with support teams on defect management, change requests, and UAT coordination.
- Strong organizational, communication, and stakeholder management skills., * Salesforce Marketing Cloud certifications (Email Specialist, Administrator, Consultant).
- Experience using Agile tools such as Azure DevOps, Aha!, JIRA, or Rally.
- Experience working with onshore/offshore delivery models.
- Demonstrated ability to lead through influence and establish delivery standards.
- Familiarity with Caterpillar enterprise processes and operating model.
