Job description
The Data Services team plays a vital role in supporting applications using SQL Server and other data platforms to meet the needs of the Firm.
The Data Services team is responsible for SQL database server configuration, database support for application upgrades, performance tuning, application onboarding, and any work related to the use of open systems database platforms such as SQL Server. We monitor and ensure database availability and address system issues in a timely manner.
What You'll Do: Responsibilities for this position include design, development, implementation, documentation, and support for applications using SQL Server databases, ensuring acceptable database availability, and performance. Test and troubleshoot production issues for existing databases and establish new database use, recommending changes to developers under minimal direction. Address any security concerns. Here are a few of the Key Responsibilities:
- Ensures acceptable database availability and response time by leading database problem diagnosis and resolution, proactive performance monitoring, and performance tuning.
- Provides technical leadership, advice, and mentoring to: DBAs, application developers, project leaders, and business users.
- Researches emerging database technologies and trends to understand future direction of database technology.
- Designs (logically and physically) large, complex, business-critical databases based on business requirements gathered from application development teams and business users.
- Ensures compliance with audit, security, and regulatory requirements.
- Provide DBA support for complex software installation and maintenance, including major upgrades.
- Proficient in evaluating and recommending software and hardware solutions, gathering opinions, and reaching consensus from a wide audience of stakeholders.
- Understanding of and commitment to protecting the integrity, security, and privacy of the firm's critical business data.
- Promote data quality and enforce data integrity
- Participates in an on-call rotation approximately every five weeks, providing coverage Tuesday to Tuesday, 9:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m. CT.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience administering SQL Server 2016 or newer in production environments.
- Demonstrated SQL Server DBA expertise, including SQL Managed Instance and cloud database platforms (Azure and/or AWS).
- 5+ years of experience with database administration and development tools such as SQL Server Management Studio, PowerShell, Toad, SQL Developer, Foglight, and ERWIN Data Modeler.
- Experience implementing and supporting physical and logical replication technologies, including Always On Availability Groups, data mirroring, log shipping, and transactional replication.
- 5+ years of experience across multiple platforms and technologies such as Linux, Windows, T-SQL, PL/SQL, SQL Server performance tuning, data modeling, ASM, and SDLC methodologies.
- Solid working knowledge of SSIS, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), and PowerShell scripting, including automation of routine database tasks.
- Exposure to NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB), DBaaS, cloud-native database services, and database DevOps practices/tools (e.g., Jira) is a plus.
