Job description
As an Engineering Manager, you'll lead a team of 6 engineers focused on building and optimizing ad experiences that balance revenue goals with seamless user engagement. You'll work closely with cross-functional partners in product, design, and data to deliver high-impact solutions that power CNN's advertising ecosystem.
Your New Role...
- Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of engineers focused on ad technologies and user experience.
- Drive the technical strategy and execution for ad integrations, including display, video, and programmatic ads.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define and prioritize work that aligns with business goals and user needs.
- Guide the team through technical planning, discovery, and delivery of scalable ad solutions.
- Provide technical leadership through code reviews, architectural guidance, and hands-on contributions when needed.
- Ensure high standards of quality, performance, and reliability in all ad-related features and systems.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent experience.
- Proven experience managing and growing engineering teams (5+ years preferred).
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
- Experience hiring, onboarding, and mentoring engineers.
- Demonstrated success in delivering performant, scalable consumer-facing applications.
Platform Experience
- Full-stack development experience with JavaScript, modern frameworks, HTML/CSS, and responsive design; Python experience is a plus.
- Experience with AWS or other cloud platforms for scalable infrastructure.
- Familiarity with A/B testing and consumer testing platforms to optimize ad performance and user experience.
- Knowledge of operational tools such as PagerDuty and experience managing an on-call team.
- Ad Tech Experience- Deep understanding of ad development and integration on publisher websites for display and video ad formats, using Supply-Side Platforms (SSPs), such as Google Ad Manager and Freewheel, and other 3rd party ad technology, business development and affiliate marketing solutions.

- Proficiency with ad testing tools and industry best practices for validation and optimization.
- Strong grasp of ad performance metrics, real-time monitoring, and analytics interpretation.
- Experience developing scalable solutions for high-traffic, content-rich websites.
