Our client is seeking a skilled Network Firewall Engineer with strong hands-on experience in Palo Alto Networks technologies to support and enhance the organization's network security infrastructure. This role will focus on firewall configuration, optimization, and security operations to ensure a secure, high-performing network environment across a large academic health system.
The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise in Palo Alto firewalls along with a strong understanding of network security principles and enterprise infrastructure.
Key responsibilities:
Design, configure, and maintain Palo Alto firewalls across the enterprise environment
Implement and manage security policies, NAT rules, VPN configurations, and threat prevention features
Monitor network traffic and security alerts to identify and respond to potential threats
Perform firewall rule analysis, optimization, and cleanup to improve performance and security posture
Collaborate with network, infrastructure, and security teams to support enterprise initiatives
Troubleshoot complex network and firewall-related issues and implement timely resolutions
Support vulnerability remediation efforts and ensure compliance with organizational security standards
Participate in network security assessments, audits, and upgrades
Maintain documentation for firewall configurations, processes, and procedures

Hands-on experience with Palo Alto Networks firewalls (configuration, policy management, troubleshooting)
Will consider candidates with any of the following Certifications:
Palo Alto Networks Certified Cybersecurity Associate (PCCSA) or Practitioner (PCCSP) OR CompTIA Security+ OR Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
Strong understanding of network security concepts, including firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, and segmentation
Experience supporting enterprise-level network environments
Familiarity with network monitoring and security tools
Experience in healthcare or large enterprise environments (preferred not required)
Experience with cloud networking or hybrid environments (preferred not required)
