Job description
Sunrise is seeking a detail-oriented and diligent Solar Performance Engineer to support energy generation modeling, operational performance analysis, and performance testing for utility-scale and commercial solar PV projects. The Solar Performance Engineer will also collaborate with Sunrise's software team to develop new analytics features for PRISM., * Develop detailed solar PV energy generation models using industry-standard software and proprietary tools.
- Conduct and review PV system performance tests to verify contractual compliance
- Review and redline performance guarantee and performance testing contractual language
- Prepare clear and concise technical reports and documentation suitable for project investors, lenders, independent engineers, and other stakeholders.
- Drive continuous improvement in Sunrise processes and methodologies through research, procedure formalization, and automation
- Create technical white papers, research presentations, and web content for external audiences
- Architect and support implementation of new performance data analytics features for the PRISM software platform
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, atmospheric science, data science, or a related field
- 2-6 years of engineering experience in the energy or power generation sector
- Technical understanding of PV systems and energy generation principles
- Proficiency with and deep understanding of solar energy production modeling, including: PVsyst or similar software (e.g. Helioscope, PlantPredict, SAM, etc.); determination of modeling assumptions from equipment manufacturer's specifications, laboratory studies, empirical models, and engineering judgment; use of python, including pvlib, for analysis and automation
- Experience with PV system performance testing and performance analysis, including: ASTM E2848-13 / E2939-13 capacity testing; Performance ratio calculations and testing; Performance data analysis and troubleshooting
- Proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- High attention to detail, with a creative, methodical, and analytical problem solving abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, take initiative, and organize tasks independently.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Naturally curious, proactive, and eager to deepen technical expertise., * Graduate degree from an accredited university in engineering, physics, atmospheric science, data science, or a related field
- Experience analyzing large multi-year historical data sets
- Experience with solar resource assessment and satellite-to-ground correlations
- Experience with SCADA systems and PV monitoring platforms
- Familiarity with independent engineering (IE) processes.
- Exposure to utility-scale or commercial PV project development, PV operations and maintenance, or an engineering-procurement-construction (EPC) work environment
Benefits & conditions
This is a fully remote position within the United States. Employment type (full-time, part-time, or contract) will be determined based on candidate qualifications and both parties' needs.
Occasional travel to conferences and project sites may be required (less than once per month).
Annual full-time equivalent salary range $80,000-$120,000, plus a discretionary bonus. Actual compensation will depend on experience, qualifications, and employment type.
