Job description

This role focuses on scientific research, development, and testing of new products, processes, and raw materials. You will research potential new products and processes by developing and testing theories on the physical, chemical, and biological properties of materials under various conditions. Additionally, you will devise research methods, prepare technical specifications, and specify laboratory test equipment and processes. Also, you will make recommendations regarding the acquisition and use of new technological equipment and materials. Finally, you will participate in intellectual property evaluations and development of patent applications. Coordinates pilot-plant or initial production runs for new products or processes.

The primary responsibilities of this role, Senior Agronomic Solutions Manager, are to:

  • Shape the portfolio and pipeline from an agronomic perspective, contributing to product concepts, target product profiles, and prioritization of new formulations and technologies;
  • Translate farmer needs, agronomic practices, weed-control pain points, and resistance evolution into clear agronomic requirements and success criteria for glyphosate-based solutions;
  • Design and refine field trial strategies and agronomic protocols to evaluate new glyphosate formulations, mixtures, and enabling technologies (e.g., application technologies, adjuvants, complementary chemistries);
  • Collaborate with field agronomists, Market Development, and trialing teams to implement protocols in field trials and on-farm evaluations, ensuring data quality, relevance, and efficient use of field capacity;
  • Analyze and interpret field and agronomic trial data on performance (weed spectrum, efficacy, crop selectivity, resistance management value) and provide clear recommendations for portfolio, pipeline, and life-cycle management decisions;
  • Co-develop agronomic use patterns and recommendations (e.g., crops, timings, application sequences, tank-mix positions), in collaboration with Strategy & Portfolio Management, Regulatory, Formulation Science, and regional/country teams;
  • Actively support the development of integrated weed management and crop solutions that position glyphosate within broader systems (other chemistries, traits, and cultural practices), including resistance management guidelines to prolong its usefulness;
  • Work with external service providers, universities, CROs and technology companies to design and execute agronomic testing programs and explore innovative technologies;
  • Support the digitalization of field testing (e.g., imaging, automated data capture, soil and climate data, advanced analytics) together with Field Solutions Technologies, Digital Farming, and other functions;
  • Embrace and demonstrate Bayer's leadership attributes, fostering collaboration, accountability, and a culture of safety, compliance, and ethical conduct in all agronomic and field-related activities.

  • Demonstrated experience in designing, executing, and interpreting field trials, including protocol development, field trial methodology and basic statistical analysis;
  • Solid understanding of glyphosate-based or comparable herbicide systems, including resistance management and integrated weed management principles;
  • Proven ability to translate field trial results into product concepts, agronomic recommendations, and clear grower value propositions;
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams (e.g., Formulation Science, Regulatory, Stewardship, Market Development, Product Supply) and external testing providers or research partners;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to derive clear, actionable conclusions from complex agronomic data sets;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to explain technical agronomic topics clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders;
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate and resolve complex, cross-functional discussions, maintaining constructive relationships across functions, regions and with external partners;
  • Willingness and ability to travel to field trial sites and key internal/external meetings as needed., * Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Weed Science, Crop Science, Soil Science, Plant Science, or a related field with 15+ years of relevant agronomic, field development, or pipeline/portfolio experience; OR
  • Master's degree in Agronomy, Weed Science, Crop Science, Soil Science, Plant Science, or a related field with 10+ years; OR
  • Ph.D. in Agronomy, Weed Science, Crop Science, Soil Science, Plant Science, or a related field with 7+ years;
  • Direct experience working with glyphosate or other widely used, high-visibility herbicides;
  • Experience in portfolio or pipeline management within crop protection or agronomy, including contributions to product concept and prioritization discussions;
  • Experience with digital tools and data applied to agronomy and field trials (e.g., imaging, sensors, data analytics);
