As a Field Installation Technician supporting our Proximity Systems team, you'll play a key role in installing and commissioning advanced safety technology on equipment at ports and terminals across the United States. These systems-comprised of cameras, sensors, and operator interfaces-are designed to increase operator awareness and help create safer work environments. In this role, you won't be stuck behind a desk. You'll be out in the field, working alongside project managers, internal teams, and customer personnel to bring these systems to life. From running cable and mounting components to system setup and documentation, you'll be involved in every step of the installation process. We're looking for someone who brings strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, enjoys problem-solving, and takes pride in hands-on work in industrial environments. Because our projects span multiple locations, this position requires a high level of flexibility, including extensive travel, overnight stays, and the ability to work extended hours when needed. What You'll Do:
- Perform installation of proximity detection systems on port equipment including forklifts, gantry cranes, and other heavy machinery
- Mount cameras, sensors, and related hardware on the exterior of equipment in accordance with installation requirements
- Install operator interfaces including in-cab video displays and system controls
- Identify and set up IP addresses for cameras and equipment systems and confirm proper installation per manufacturer specifications
- Identify machine power sources and complete electrical connections to support system operation
- Identify and integrate connection points for functions such as park and reverse
- Commission installed systems, verify proper functionality, and troubleshoot issues as needed
- Complete required documentation for installations including configurations, reports, and checklists
- Support multiple installation approaches including independent installs, hybrid installs alongside customer teams, and customer-supported deployments
Working Conditions
- Walk / use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or tools / reach with hands and arms / climb ladders and stairs / crawl / kneel
- Sit, talk, listen, observe, read, write, and type
- Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted
- Perform work on site in industrial locations with occasional underground and/or at heights
Requirements
- 1-3 years' of relevant experience in equipment installation, control wiring, or mechanical applications preferred
- Possess High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver's license required
- Current TWIC card or ability to obtain at hire
- Possess willingness to perform hands on mechanical and electrical work
- Experience with basic electrical systems (12V/24V) and wiring practices preferred
- Experience reading and interpreting manuals and electrical drawings preferred, This position requires the completion of a thorough background and pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
