Job description

In your role as an Application Developer - COBOL you will support company's top strategic priorities. The person selected will initially work within the service operations team, for the CLOAS application. The Service Operations team is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the CLOAS application along with its accompanying peripheral systems, maintaining system health and implementing changes to support the business. The individual needs to be proficient in providing technical support for large and complex mainframe applications. The role will involve extensive collaboration with other developers, Business Analysts and QA members on the team as well as with Business Partners and other IT teams. This position reports to the Long-Term Care Policy Administration Service Operations Leader. CLOAS is a mainframe-based application and is the core system for Long Term Care Policy Administration. The CLOAS application sits at the center of all policy processing for the business and contains the data and business logic for all customer service operations. The system integrates with many peripheral systems utilizing various technologies including Web Services and MQ. The CLOAS team uses Agile development methodologies and is actively implementing modern tools for development and testing. It is amongst the most active systems, with multiple ongoing enhancements and upgrades to support evolving business needs.

Support the Long Term Care policy administration system, by monitoring the system, resolving failures, job abends, policy related incidents, system defects, and by maintaining the interactions of the application with peripheral systems. Analyze incidents raised by users to assist them with completing business activities, determine the impact of the issue and come up with solution proposals to formulate the right approach to solve the problem. Design, Code, Document and Test the solution ensuring that it meets acceptance criteria, does not cause unintended impact and fits within the overall technical architecture. Support your changes through the testing process, assist with test planning, defect resolution and technical system activities. Implement the solution following the established change control process Create reports from the system data to perform data analysis, support business activities, and fulfil regulatory and audit requirements including SOX audits. Perform administrative duties in conjunction with the departmental requirements (participate in meetings, agile ceremonies (Kanban Stand Ups, Inspect and Adapt sessions etc.), respond to correspondence in a timely manner, provide status updates, review/update/submit tickets, participate in change management activities). Take ownership of work and collaborate with the team to ensure incidents are completed in a timely manner considering their severity, impact and urgency. Assist team members in resolving complex business and/or technical problems. Provide technical advice on complex programming.

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Sponsorship not available., 4-year college degree and relevant equivalent experience with strong mainframe (COBOL, JCL, CICS, IMS) programming skills and production support experience preferably in insurance/finance domain. Excellent analytical skills and a detail-oriented mindset, with ability to understand complex business logic, analyze the system and data, to identify changes needed, and understand impact of changes on the various products and system functionalities. Basic experience with SQL and data analysis. Experience working in a cross-functional team environment on a complex mainframe system and having good problem-solving skills and a results-oriented outlook. Good communication skills ability to work with various stakeholders, managing concurrent deadlines and multiple priorities. A continuous improvement mindset, and willingness to adapt to new technologies and ways of working Experience with migration of Mainframe applications to other platforms Knowledge of Assembler Practical knowledge of LTC insurance products and premiums Experience in a managed services environment, working with an onshore-offshore model, managing to SLA's and work queues. Experience working in an Agile environment (Scrum or Kanban) IMS database experience in an MVS and CICS environment Exposure to Product Accelerator tool Advanced SQL programming experience Experience with modern mainframe development and testing tools Knowledge of automated COBOL conversion tools Benefits/Other Compensation
