Job description

The Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA) is an independent State agency that regulates Maryland's $49 billion insurance industry and protects consumers by monitoring and enforcing insurers' and insurance professionals' compliance with State law. Staff members are subject matter experts who serve as a resource for lawmakers, consumers, and other public and private entities.

The MIA is charged with a broad range of responsibilities including the licensure of insurance carriers and insurance producers (brokers/agents) operating in Maryland, the conduct of financial examinations of companies to monitor financial solvency, and the review and approval of rates and contract forms. The MIA investigates reports of consumer fraud and consumer complaints about life, health, automobile, homeowners, and/or property insurance. Insurance carriers are subject to market conduct examinations and other actions to monitor compliance with Maryland law. The MIA also has a unit dedicated to consumer education and outreach, which participates in hundreds of events and reaches thousands of individual consumers annually., * Architecting, designing, implementing, monitoring, and maintaining all data center and cloud technologies to optimize infrastructure operations.

  • Planning, designing, installing, and supporting network security products, to include firewalls, intrusion protection systems, and access control systems.
  • Maintaining data and systems security by providing updates to MIA Security Policy, Zero Trust, and Disaster Recovery Plan.
  • Providing leadership, training and guidance to direct reports to ensure high availability and security for business applications.
  • Providing guidance to manage Teams and AWS Connect VOIP and Wireless Access Point technology with DOIT.
  • Architecting, designing, implementing, monitoring, and maintaining Azure Active Directory, cleanup, and group-based security on folders and applications.
  • Overseeing preparation of requests for proposals (PORFPs and TORFPs) for data center hardware, software and services.
  • Recommending strategic and tactical projects for the MIA's Data Center and Infrastructure Services Unit.
  • Developing, maintaining, and enforcing IT policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines.

Requirements

Experience: Three years of experience designing, developing, implementing, maintaining and controlling database management systems for computers and designing, developing, testing, implementing and maintaining applications systems and programs using generally accepted computer programming languages or maintaining and modifying operating systems for computers.

Notes:

  1. Candidates may substitute graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate plus thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university in Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science or other information technology-related field to include course work in database management systems.

2 Candidates may substitute the possession of experience operating computer systems; or scheduling, controlling input and output or maintaining a tape library to process data on computer systems; or converting data from project specifications by developing program code using generally accepted computer programming languages on a year-for-year basis for graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

  1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science or other information technology related field to include course work in database management systems and three years of experience designing, developing, implementing, maintaining and controlling database management systems for computers for the required experience.

  2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Database Administration classifications or Database Administration specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
