Job description

Looking for a candidate with hands on experience with internal developers and portals such as backstage. Experience building developer tooling. Strong githubs workflows.

Backstage is an open-source, CNCF-hosted framework for building Internal Developer Portals (IDPs) that centralizes software catalogs, documentation, and infrastructure tools into a single UI. Originally created by Spotify, it acts as a "service catalog" that streamlines development, boosts productivity, and manages microservices complexity, often described as an internal developer hub or a centralized developer platform.

Key Usage Examples

  • Centralized Software Catalog: Acts as a searchable directory for all software, services, and websites, tracking ownership and dependencies.
  • Software Templates (Scaffolder): Quickly creates new microservices or projects using standardized templates, auto-registering them in the catalog.
  • Documentation (TechDocs): Automatically generates and hosts documentation (using Markdown) for services, ensuring docs are always up-to-date.
  • Kubernetes Management: Visualizes the health and performance of services across clusters.
  • Plugin Ecosystem: Extends functionality to integrate third-party tools like Jenkins, Jira, CircleCI, or Prometheus.

The Manager, Platform Engineering - Developer Experience leads a product-focused pod within Platform Engineering, building tooling and workflows on top of the existing internal platform to enable developer experience across the organization. This role combines engineering leadership with product ownership. The ideal candidate has a strong Developer or DevOps background and hands-on experience with IDP portals such as Backstage.

Requirements

  • [Required] Hands-on experience with Internal Developer Portals such as Backstage plugin development, service catalog configuration, and software templates
  • [Required] Experience building developer tooling and self-service workflows on top of existing platform infrastructure
  • [Required] Strong GitOps experience managing infrastructure and application delivery through Git-based workflows
  • [Required] Experience in DevOps tooling such as: Terraform, GitHub Actions, Kubernetes, Artifactory and CI/CD pipeline design
  • [Required] Experience with Kubernetes (K8s) and Helm
  • [Required] Experience with AWS foundational services: VPCs, Security Groups, EC2, RDS, S3, KMS, IAM, and AWS CLI
  • [Required] BS degree in Computer Science, similar technical field, or equivalent experience
  • [Required] 7+ years in platform engineering, DevOps, or related infrastructure/tooling disciplines
  • [Required] 3+ years in an engineering leadership or management role
