Job description

An excellent career opportunity is currently available for a Linux Cloud Administrator local to the Aires Pittsburgh, PA office. The Linux Cloud Administrator has strong expertise in RedHat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) administration and AWS cloud infrastructure. This role focuses on building, securing, and operating Linux-based systems within AWS. The ideal candidate has extensive hands-on experience managing Linux systems in AWS, implementing automation through Infrastructure-as-Code, and maintaining secure, highly available cloud infrastructure.

The Linux Cloud Administrator will manage and maintain Linux infrastructure running in AWS environments across production and non-production workloads. Responsibilities include provisioning and hardening Linux systems, managing patching and lifecycle activities, supporting enterprise identity integration, and implementing infrastructure automation.

This role will also contribute to Infrastructure-as-Code initiatives using Satellite, Terraform and/or AWS CloudFormation, helping standardize system builds, improve deployment consistency, and support secure and scalable cloud operations.

Key Operations Responsibilities

  • Administers and supports AWS infrastructure across production and non-production environments
  • Manages core AWS services including EC2, VPC, IAM, S3, EBS, CloudWatch, and CloudTrail
  • Monitors system health and performance using AWS-native monitoring and logging tools
  • Implements AWS security best practices including least privilege IAM policies, security groups, encryption, and key management
  • Supports infrastructure reliability, scalability, and operational stability

Linux Platform Engineering (AWS)

  • Provisions, configures, and maintains Linux servers running in AWS EC2 environments
  • Builds and manages standardized Amazon Linux and RHEL system images
  • Performs Linux patching, lifecycle management, and repository management using enterprise systems management platforms
  • Troubleshoots Linux performance, networking, storage, and system services
  • Optimizes Linux systems for performance, security, and reliability in AWS environments

Infrastructure Automation & DevOps

  • Implements Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) using Terraform and/or AWS CloudFormation
  • Supports automation pipelines using Jenkins
  • Develops scripts using Bash and/or Python to automate operational tasks
  • Uses Ansible to automate system configuration, patching, and application deployment workflows
  • Supports automated system builds and configuration management
  • Identifies opportunities to improve infrastructure automation and operational efficiency

Identity & Authentication Services

  • Supports Linux identity integration with enterprise authentication services
  • Manages host enrollment and authentication troubleshooting
  • Ensures reliable access control across Linux systems in cloud environments

Security & Compliance

  • Implements and maintain Linux security configurations aligned with CIS benchmarks
  • Performs OS hardening and maintain secure baseline configurations
  • Monitors configuration drift and support remediation efforts
  • Manages PKI and certificate lifecycle operations, including certificate issuance, renewal, and troubleshooting

System Resilience & Operations

  • Supports backup, disaster recovery, and system resilience strategies
  • Participates in incident response, root cause analysis, and maintenance operations
  • Maintains documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures
  • Works within a ticketing and change management environment

Candidates for this position must be authorized to work legally in the United States. Visa sponsorship is not available.

Requirements

  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field preferred.
  • 4+ years of hands-on AWS administration experience
  • Strong Linux systems administration experience in cloud environments
  • Experience building and managing Amazon Linux and/or Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems
  • Experience deploying and managing Linux systems in AWS EC2 environments
  • Experience implementing or supporting Infrastructure-as-Code using Terraform or AWS CloudFormation
  • Experience using Ansible for configuration management and automation
  • Experience with enterprise Linux patching and lifecycle management tools
  • Experience supporting Linux identity and authentication services

AWS Core Services

Hands-on experience with:

  • EC2, VPC, IAM, S3, CloudWatch, EBS, CloudTrail

PKI & Certificate Management

Experience with:

  • TLS fundamentals
  • Certificate chains (root/intermediate)
  • CSR generation
  • Certificate lifecycle management
  • Certificate renewals and rotations
  • Troubleshooting certificate-related issues

Additional Technical Skills

  • Scripting experience (Bash required; Python preferred)
  • Experience aligning Linux builds and configurations with CIS benchmarks
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automation workflows
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across Linux systems, networking, and cloud infrastructure
