Job description
Amazon Leo Builder Product Services is seeking an experienced Senior Database Engineer to lead the design, implementation, administration, and optimization of our Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL database environments supporting Siemens Teamcenter PLM and related platform services. You will collaborate across PLM Application, Infrastructure, and Integration teams to improve database performance, reliability, and scalability. You will ensure the database architecture is performant, highly available, and observable as the platform scales., Support MS SQL Server and PostgreSQL database solutions for Teamcenter PLM and adjacent platform services across development, test, and production environments; work with Infrastructure teams on high availability, clustering, replication, and disaster recovery deployments
- Perform day-to-day DBA responsibilities including database provisioning, user and role management, access control, capacity planning, patching, and health monitoring across both MS SQL Server and PostgreSQL environments
- Develop and implement database migration strategies for Teamcenter upgrades, PostgreSQL adoption initiatives, and performance optimization as the platform scales to support additional product lines and integrations
- Design and optimize database schemas, stored procedures, functions, and queries across MS SQL Server and PostgreSQL, ensuring consistency and performance across both platforms
- Establish best practices for MS SQL Server and PostgreSQL administration, backup/recovery, replication, and high availability in the context of Teamcenter's data model and enterprise integrations, Join KBPS and play a pivotal role in building the digital thread for satellite production. As a Senior Database Engineer, you'll focus on architecting and maintaining robust Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL database environments that support our Siemens Teamcenter PLM platform and related services. Your day might include analyzing query performance metrics, designing schema improvements to enhance system reliability, or working with application teams to troubleshoot database connectivity issues. You'll participate in infrastructure planning sessions, mentor colleagues on database best practices, and contribute to documentation that helps the broader organization understand our database strategy. Beyond routine administration, you'll take on strategic initiatives like evaluating new database technologies or implementing monitoring solutions that give us deeper visibility into system health.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
- 5+ years of database administration and engineering experience with Microsoft SQL Server
- Expert knowledge of MS SQL Server architecture, including query optimization, indexing strategies, memory management, table partitioning, Always On Availability Groups, and backup/recovery procedures
- Strong working knowledge of PostgreSQL architecture, query planning, indexing strategies, partitioning, WAL configuration, and backup/recovery
- Strong experience with performance tuning and optimization of complex queries and stored procedures/functions across MS SQL Server and PostgreSQL
- Proven experience with high-availability and disaster recovery solutions for MS SQL Server and PostgreSQL (streaming replication, logical replication, failover mechanisms)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or equivalent SQL Server certification
- PostgreSQL certification or demonstrated equivalent expertise (e.g., EDB PostgreSQL Associate/Professional)
- Experience with Siemens Teamcenter data model architecture (BMIDE, Item/ItemRevision structures, BOM management, workflow/lifecycle objects)
- Experience with AWS database services (RDS for SQL Server, RDS for PostgreSQL, Aurora PostgreSQL)
- Experience with PostgreSQL connection pooling tools and monitoring tools
- Knowledge of additional database platforms (Oracle)
- Experience with database monitoring and observability tools (SQL Server Management Studio, Performance Monitor, extended events, Grafana, CloudWatch, third-party monitoring)
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code
