Job description

The Staff Data Insights Engineer is responsible for leading the design, deployment, and day to day operations of Data and Insights products that support the Avionics and Power business within Defense and Systems DT. This role will own the operational lifecycle of analytics platforms and applications-ensuring they are reliable, secure, performant, and cost effective-while partnering closely with product, architecture, data engineering, and business stakeholders. The engineer will act as a technical leader for application operations, driving standard processes, automation, and observability across the data and analytics landscape to enable high quality business decisions., Product & Platform Operations

  • Own end-to-end operations of data and insights applications and platforms supporting Avionics and Power (e.g., dashboards, data services, analytics models, and APIs).
  • Manage environments (dev, test, stage, prod) and deployments for analytics workloads, ensuring consistency, reliability, and controlled change management.
  • Monitor and optimize performance, availability, and reliability (SLOs/SLAs) of applications, including proactive capacity planning and tuning.
  • Establish and maintain runbooks, standard work, and operation procedures for core applications and services.
  • Lead incident response and problem management, including root cause analysis, corrective actions, and preventive measures.

Data & Analytics Enablement

  • Operationalize data pipelines, data products, and analytics solutions supporting defense programs.
  • Ensure data operations quality including data refresh reliability, job orchestration, error handling, and data validation checks.
  • Support analytics and BI tools (for example: data visualization platforms, semantic layers, curated data sets) used by Avionics and Power engineering, program, and operations teams.
  • Contribute to solution design with an operations lens, ensuring new data and analytics products are supportable, secure, and scalable from day one.

Reliability, Automation, and Continuous Improvement

  • Implement observability (logging, metrics, tracing, dashboards, alerts) to achieve high service reliability and fast issue detection.
  • Automate operational tasks (deployments, configuration, testing, backups, and recovery) using CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code where applicable.
  • Drive continuous improvement in application operations, using metrics and retrospectives to improve stability, quality, and cycle time.
  • Promote standard tools and patterns across Defense and Systems DT for operating data and analytics products (monitoring, deployment, access management, documentation, and support models).

Security, Compliance, and Governance

  • Ensure compliance with GE Aerospace and Defense requirements related to cybersecurity, data protection, export control, and regulatory obligations.
  • Implement and maintain access control, authentication, and authorization for data and analytics applications, following least-privilege principles.
  • Participate in audits and reviews, providing evidence of proper controls, logging, and operational practices.
  • Support data governance practices, including data classification, retention, and usage policies for defense data assets.

Stakeholder Collaboration & Leadership

  • Act as a primary operational point of contact for Avionics and Power business stakeholders for data and analytics products.
  • Collaborate with product managers and solution owners to prioritize enhancements, manage technical debt, and plan operational readiness for new releases.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and operations team members.
  • Communicate status, risks, and recommendations clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders, including leadership in Defense and Systems DT.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree from accredited university or college with minimum of 4 years of professional experience OR Associates degree with minimum of 7 years of professional experience OR High School Diploma with minimum of 9 years of professional experience

Note: Military experience is equivalent to professional experience, * 4+ years of experience in application operations, site reliability engineering, DevOps, or platform engineering, with significant exposure to data and analytics systems.

  • Working knowledge of BI/analytics tools (for example, Spotfire, Tableau, Power BI, or similar).
  • Demonstrated experience operating cloud-hosted applications and services
  • Experience with PL/SQL, AWS Redshift procedures
  • Strong hands-on experience with monitoring, alerting, and logging tools and building dashboards for operational health.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment frameworks., * Experience supporting data platforms, such as data warehouses, data lakes, data lakehouses, or analytics platforms.
  • Familiarity with ETL/ELT tooling, workflow orchestration, and data pipeline operations.
  • Experience operating applications or data systems in a defense, aerospace, or highly regulated environment.
  • Strong understanding of security principles, including identity and access management, encryption, and network security controls.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives, influence without authority, and drive standardization across teams.
  • Strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills, with a track record of improving operational reliability and reducing incidents.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to translate technical concepts into business-relevant language., * Customer-driven mindset with a focus on delivering high-quality, reliable analytic capabilities to Avionics and Power stakeholders.

Benefits & conditions

The base pay range for this position is 112,000.00 - 149,000.00 Annual. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on a percentage of your base salary/ commission based on the plan.
