Job description
Applied Research Laboratories (ARL) is seeking a research laboratory-level IT, Security & Compliance Manager to lead secure IT operations and regulatory compliance for a defense-focused applied research environment. This role ensures laboratory systems, networks, and data meet DoD and federal cybersecurity requirements while enabling high-performance research for the Advanced Technology Laboratory ( ATL)., * Lead secure IT infrastructure operations, including research networks, compute environments, storage, and endpoint management.
- Oversee cybersecurity strategy and implementation aligned with NIST, RMF, CMMC, and related DoD frameworks.
- Manage risk assessments, vulnerability management, incident response, and audit readiness.
- Ensure compliance with CUI, ITAR/EAR, and sponsor-specific security requirements.
- Develop and enforce IT governance, policies, and security procedures.
- Lead and mentor IT/security staff; manage budgets and vendor relationships.
- Serve as primary liaison to laboratory IT, security offices, and DoD stakeholders., The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length., Employees may be required to report violations of law under Title IX and the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act). If this position is identified a Campus Security Authority (Clery Act), you will be notified and provided resources for reporting. Responsible employees under Title IX are defined and outlined in HOP-3031.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Engineering, or related field.
- Eight years of experience in IT and cybersecurity within a regulated or federal environment.
- Experience supporting DoD, UARC, FFRDC, or defense contractor programs.
- Working knowledge of NIST-based cybersecurity frameworks and accreditation processes.
- Eligibility for immediate access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position., * Experience with classified or secure research environments.
- Familiarity with CUI, export controls, and federal research compliance.
