Senior System Engineer

Our client, a well-established and growing manufacturing organization, is seeking a hands-on IT System Engineering Manager to lead and evolve their internal IT environment. This is a high-impact role responsible for overseeing infrastructure strategy, system reliability, and security while managing day-to-day operations in a lean IT team. THIS IS A 100% ON-SITE ROLE IN BUFFALO GROVE, ILLINOIS.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys balancing leadership responsibilities with technical execution and wants to play a key role in modernizing and scaling infrastructure., * Design, implement, and maintain scalable IT infrastructure across on-premises and hybrid environments

• Oversee network architecture, server environments (Windows & Linux), storage systems, and disaster recovery planning
• Manage and optimize virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere/vCenter)
• Administer core services including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy
• Ensure adherence to security best practices, compliance standards, and data protection protocols
• Monitor system performance and proactively resolve issues to minimize downtime
• Partner with internal stakeholders to align IT infrastructure with business objectives
• Maintain thorough documentation of systems, configurations, and processes
• Mentor and support Help Desk staff, providing guidance and technical leadership

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
• 5+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, with 2+ years in a leadership or senior capacity
• Strong expertise in server administration, networking, virtualization, and cybersecurity
• Hands-on experience with technologies such as Active Directory, VMware, SAN/NAS storage, and firewalls
• Proven troubleshooting and performance optimization skills
• Experience with automation, infrastructure-as-code, or scripting tools is a plus
• Exposure to DevOps practices and CI/CD environments preferred
• Strong communication skills with the ability to lead projects and collaborate cross-functionally
• Relevant certifications (Microsoft, Cisco, AWS, ITIL, etc.) are a plus

• Base salary starting at $130,000+ (commensurate with experience)
