Job description
This position will require 24/7 coverage, which could include working a shift/weekend schedule. Employees may be eligible for shift differential pay when assigned by their manager. Shift/weekend assignments are at the discretion of the manager.
Due to federal restrictions contained in the current National Defense Authorization Act, citizens of the People's Republic of China, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Democratic People's Republic of North Korea, and the Russian Federation, who are not Lawful Permanent Residents ("green card" holders) are prohibited from accessing facilities that support the mission, functions, and operations of national security laboratories and nuclear weapons production facilities, which includes Los Alamos National Laboratory.

Requirements
- Knowledge and experience with applying and demonstration of engineering design cycle principles: requirements gathering, design, and implementation, debugging, testing, and documentation.
- Experience with designs, completed installations, maintenance, or technical products.
- Knowledge and experience in the design and development of computer-based data acquisition systems, such as Allen Bradley/Rockwell Software programmable logic controllers (PLCs), SCADA, and industrial computers.
- Knowledge of NFPA 70,70E,and79.
- Demonstrated broad knowledge of electronics, instrumentation, and control-systems hardware and software.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, including technical writing and technical presentations.
- Knowledge of distributed control systems and networking.
- Knowledge of control & data acquisition theory and instrumentation hardware.
Education/Experience at R&D Engineer 1 : Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution related to the occupation combined with 2 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and technical experience directly related to the occupation.
DOE 426.2: Requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or related science, 2 years job related experience, and 1 year of nuclear experience.
Desired Qualifications:
- Active DOE Q clearance and HRP Certified.
- Glovebox Operator (GBO)
- Fissile Material Handler (FMH)
Training/Certifications: Electrical Safety Officer training is desired.
Essential Job Functions (can perform with or without reasonable accommodation): Reading Vision, Sitting, Standing, Climbing stairs, Climbing ladders, reaching overhead, reaching horizontally, reaching down, Typing or keyboarding, lifting 30+ pounds.
Work Environment: Working in widely ranging ambient temperatures, irregular schedule, operation of motor vehicles, working in a noisy environment, working near electrical power supplies, working near sources of ionizing radiation, working near sources of non-ionizing radiation, and working near machinery with moving parts.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM.
