Job description

PeopleTec is currently seeking a Solution Architect - Digital Engineering to support our National Capital Region, Arlington, VA location.

PeopleTec is a company that hires and develops technology talent and puts them to work on client projects across the United States. We specialize in Digital Engineering, Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), Digital Transformation, DevSecOps/CI/CD, Cloud Services, and Test & Evaluation (T&E) modernization initiatives, both in the federal and commercial space. We are currently seeking a Digital Engineering Solutions Architect to support our aerospace and defense client portfolio.

Our team is seeking an exceptionally motivated self-starting Digital Engineering Solution Architect with experience delivering Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), test and acquisition automation, and digital thread solutions on complex aerospace and defense programs. The Solution Architect will be responsible for architecting the design, build, test, deployment, and sustainment of model-based engineering and digital thread capabilities that give programs a competitive edge in cost, schedule, and technical performance. The Solution Architect will serve as a primary technical change agent, leading the transition from document-based to model-based engineering practices and shaping enterprise-wide Integration, Test, and Evaluation reference architectures.

Duties: Architect the design, build, test, deployment, and sustainment of enterprise digital engineering capabilities, including end-to-end Integration, Acquisition, Test, and Evaluation reference architectures.

  • Serve as a primary technical change agent driving the transition from document-based to model-based test architectures, including the development of Domain Specific Language (DSL) ontology standards, methodology, work instructions, training, and adoption support.
  • Develop end-to-end system model traceability from Agile epics, capabilities, and features through customer and system requirements, use cases, functional and structural architecture, interface specifications, and test procedures.
  • Design, build, and maintain high-fidelity system models in MagicDraw/Cameo, IBM Rational Rhapsody, and IBM DOORS, using SysML, UPDM, and UAF frameworks to support the full system life cycle.
  • Develop Cameo plugins, validation suites, and metric suites that automate model integrity checks and ensure compliance with customer MBSE acquisition requirements.
  • Design keyword-driven Model-Based Testing solutions and build test automation and CI/CD pipelines using Robot Framework, GitHub/GitLab, and the Atlassian tool suite.
  • Automate generation of Contractual artifacts, including Interface Control Documents (ICDs), specifications, and test procedures, directly from authoritative system models.
  • Synchronize system models with adjacent digital artifacts (e.g., CAD, PLM, requirements databases) to mature the end-to-end digital thread across engineering disciplines.
  • Establish MBSE methodology, guidelines, and coaching for programs adopting model-based practices from the ground up, including capability decomposition, functional and structural architecture, interface design, and data messaging.
  • Apply earned-value management principles to MBSE scope; plan and deliver modeling work on time and on budget while mitigating technical and programmatic risk.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams, including software, hardware, and test and evaluation engineers, in Agile and DevSecOps environments to deliver measurable cost savings, cycle-time reductions, and quality improvements across the enterprise.

Requirements

  • Senior-level Systems Engineering experience (7+ years), including demonstrated delivery of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) on aerospace, defense, or other complex engineered systems.
  • Demonstrated hands-on expertise with MagicDraw/Cameo (including Cameo Simulation Toolkit, DataHub, and validation suites), SysML, and UPDM/UAF.
  • Proven experience automating engineering artifacts (e.g., ICDs, CDRLs, test procedures) from authoritative system models, with measurable cycle-time reductions.
  • Programming proficiency in at least one of Java, Python, JavaScript, or C++, including the ability to extend MBSE tooling via plugins or APIs.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines with minimal oversight, with strong technical writing skills across stakeholder analysis, requirements, and full system life-cycle documentation.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • An active DoD Secret clearance is required to perform this work. Candidates must be able to obtain a Secret clearance, and have the ability to maintain this level of clearance during their employment.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Systems Engineering, Operations Research, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or similar).

Desired Skills:

  • Advanced degree in STEM (e.g., Systems Engineering, Operations Research, Computer Science, Modeling & Simulation).
  • Active U.S. DoD TOP SECRET or TS/SCI clearance.
  • Experience on U.S. Navy, U.S. Army aviation (FVL, FLRAA, FARA), or intelligence community programs.
  • IBM Rational Rhapsody experience and familiarity with UML Testing Profile.
  • Mathematical modeling and simulation background, including discrete event, Monte Carlo, control systems, MATLAB/Simulink, Arena, or linear/nonlinear/integer programming.
  • Strong understanding of Agile frameworks and DevSecOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, GitHub/GitLab, and the Atlassian tool suite.
  • Familiarity with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
  • Track record of delivering multi-million-dollar cost savings or measurable cycle-time reductions (greater than 20%) through digital engineering initiatives.
  • Membership in INCOSE, Omega Rho, or equivalent professional and honor societies; conference publications or presentations a plus.
  • Human Factors or Human-Computer Interaction design experience on operator-facing systems.
