Job description

Prime Video Personalization and Discovery (PVPD) is seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer to serve as the Search and AI Discovery Technical Lead. This role will work across team boundaries within PVPD and with external partners to drive the success of our search infrastructure modernization and AI-powered content discovery initiatives. You'll be responsible for leading the technical strategy, architecture, and implementation of our decoupled search platform while pioneering the integration between traditional search and LLM-based approaches for content discovery. You'll also establish operational excellence practices across the organization., Lead technical strategy and architecture for Search Decoupling initiative, working across Search Engine, Search Relevance, Query Understanding, and SCCX teams to deliver comprehensive solutions Drive integration between traditional search and LLM-based approaches for content discovery, designing hybrid architectures that leverage both semantic understanding and traditional ranking signals Collaborate with ML/AI teams to implement and optimize LLM-powered features including semantic search, natural language query understanding, and personalized content recommendations Design, implement, and maintain robust search infrastructure components including Search Index Builder and Search Results Ranker services, contributing significant code volume and conducting thorough code reviews Drive ML Ranking integration planning and develop custom ML frameworks that enable multi-model experimentation within decoupled search architecture, with emphasis on LLM integration patterns Establish and lead operational excellence initiatives including cross-org OPR meetings, performance profiling office hours, and on-call rotations to improve system reliability Mentor engineers across multiple teams on work execution, career development, and software/system design through regular 1:1s and technical guidance Resolve critical system issues and escalations, including root cause analysis and providing teams with actionable solutions to unblock launches Align cross-org teams on system architecture decisions including compute, feature storage/caching/persistence, batch processing components, and LLM inference infrastructure

Requirements

5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
  • 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
