Kforce has a client in Cypress, CA (hybrid-on site ~3 days/week) that is seeking a Senior Firmware Engineer for a full-time (direct hire) role. About the Role: Our client is seeking a Senior Firmware Engineer to help build, enhance, and scale the next generation of embedded products used worldwide. You'll work across real-time embedded systems, communication protocols, and networking stacks-contributing features end-to-end while partnering with cross-functional engineering teams. Responsibilities:
- Develop and enhance features for real-time embedded systems
- Build communications protocol drivers used within our embedded platforms and third-party devices
- Design and improve network communication mechanisms for performance and reliability
- Port existing software to new embedded hardware and software platforms
- Create software development and test tools that accelerate delivery and quality
Requirements
- BS in EE/CS/CE (or similar)
- 5-7 years of professional experience in C/C++, ideally with Embedded Linux and microcontroller RTOS development
- Experience with distributed systems and network-based communication protocols
- Comfort in Microsoft Visual Studio and Eclipse environments
- Ability to tackle complex tasks with minimal guidance; Strong problem-solving, design, development, and debugging skills
- Clear, concise communication (verbal and written); Able to interpret specs, standards, and technical journals
- Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with Windows and Linux OS
Nice to Have:
- Hands-on Linux embedded development; GNU toolchain familiarity
- RTOS and high-reliability platform experience
- Protocols & technologies: TCP/IP, UDP, RS-232/RS-485, SSL/TLS, XML/HTML/JSON, RESTful web services
- Exposure to containerization and virtual machines
Specific Standout Skills:
- Device tree customization experience
- Yocto platform expertise
- Ability to work across different CPU architectures

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
