Job description: Own and evolve a custom Debian-based Linux platform Customize kernel, integrate drivers, and manage system packages Build and optimize build, test, and release pipelines Act as escalation point for complex system-level issues Perform deep debugging and root-cause analysis Support and guide internal development teams Drive continuous improvements in performance, security, and automation About the customer: We are working with a leading company in the pharmaceutical and medical technology space, developing advanced diagnostic systems and digital health solutions. For their engineering team in Central Switzerland, we are looking for a Senior Linux Platform Engineer to take ownership of a custom Debian-based Linux platform powering next-generation medical devices. This role sits at the core of system architecture, covering everything from kernel-level work to application integration, with a strong focus on performance, security, and reliability. Requirements: 10+ years of hands-on Linux engineering experience across the full stack Strong experience building and maintaining custom Linux distributions (ideally Debian-based) Deep expertise in Debian packaging (.deb) and lifecycle management Strong Python and Shell scripting skills Solid understanding of OS fundamentals (processes, memory, filesystems) Experience with build systems (Make, CMake) and release pipelines Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills Fluent English Nice to Have Experience with C or C++ Background in embedded systems / ARM / drivers Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, KVM, CI/CD, Terraform Experience with AWS or other cloud platforms German is a plus
