API Test Lead (Test Strategy)

Test Lead - API Automation (Contract) Contract Length: 6 months Location: UK - based anywhere/Remote Level: Senior/C9 equivalent Sector: Retail Banking

We are seeking a hands-on Test Lead to support a new strategic initiative, the Colleague Application Toolkit. This role is ideal for a technically strong QA leader who can step into a new build, quickly understand the system architecture, and shape the testing approach from the ground up. This is not a purely managerial role - the successful candidate will be hands-on with API automation, while also providing leadership, direction, and structure to an existing QA team.

Key Responsibilities

Take ownership of testing for a newly built internal platform, working closely with engineering and product teams to understand the system end-to-end Define and document the Test Strategy and overall test approach, aligned to delivery timelines and quality goals Be hands-on with API automation, contributing directly to test creation and execution Work with existing QA engineers to design and evolve an automation framework, improving coverage and maintainability Provide technical leadership, coaching, and day-to-day support to QA team members Embed testing best practices early, ensuring quality is built in from the start Collaborate closely with developers, architects, and stakeholders to ensure clear ownership of quality and risk

Required Experience

Proven experience as a Test Lead or Senior QA in complex delivery environments Strong, hands-on experience with API testing and automation Experience defining test strategies for new systems or platforms Comfortable leading while remaining technically active ("player/coach" mindset) Experience working in regulated environments such as retail banking or financial services Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
