Job description
The Utility Systems Architect serves as the senior technical lead responsible for assessing, designing, and guiding the evolution of a connected utility technology ecosystem across operational technology (OT), information technology (IT), enterprise applications, data platforms, cybersecurity controls, and integration services. This role translates UOSA's digital transformation objectives into practical architecture patterns that improve interoperability, reduce technology fragmentation, strengthen IT/OT governance, and maximize value from existing platforms such as SCADA, AVEVA PI, GIS, CMMS/ERP, LIMS, Microsoft 365, Power BI, and document management systems. The ideal candidate has experience in utility or mission-critical environments and can communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders., Utility Architecture & Digital Transformation Leadership
- Lead architecture discovery across IT, OT, cybersecurity, enterprise applications, data/analytics, and infrastructure
- Develop current-state and target-state architecture views
- Define architecture principles for integration and governance
- Translate digital maturity findings into roadmap initiatives
IT/OT Integration and Data Architecture
- Assess integration methods between OT and enterprise systems
- Recommend scalable data architecture solutions
- Define data flows for high-value use cases
- Address data quality, metadata, and security considerations
Cybersecurity, Resilience, and Governance
- Incorporate cybersecurity principles (NIST, CIS, Zero Trust)
- Support governance frameworks and architecture reviews
- Align solutions with budget, staffing, and risk tolerance
Stakeholder Engagement
- Facilitate workshops across departments
- Present technical findings to executives
- Support vendor evaluations and decision-making
- Mentor team members
Requirements
Clearance / Access: Public Trust or equivalent background check preferred; ability to comply with UOSA site access, safety, and cybersecurity requirements, * Bachelor's in IT, Engineering, Cybersecurity, or related field, * 10+ years in architecture or IT/OT modernization
- 5+ years in utilities or critical infrastructure
- Experience with application portfolio assessment and roadmap development, * IT/OT integration, APIs, data pipelines, and reporting architectures
- Architecture modeling and governance frameworks (TOGAF, COBIT)
- Familiarity with platforms like AVEVA PI, GIS, ERP, Microsoft 365, Power BI
Preferred Qualifications
- Utility industry experience
- Experience with predictive maintenance, analytics, digital twins
- Certifications: TOGAF, CISSP, Azure, PMP, etc.
