Job description
This TS/SCI Platform Architect is responsible for the architecture, integration, and operation of a highly available, scalable, multi-tenant cloud platform hosted in AWS and managed through GitOps-based workflows. They will be responsible for the following but not limited to:
- Provide senior technical leadership for the architecture, design, and continuous evolution of a large scale, multi tenant cloud platform delivered as a Platform as a Service, ensuring alignment with Air Force PMO objectives.
- Architect and operate highly available, scalable platform services in AWS, leveraging cloud native networking, compute, identity, and security services to ensure resiliency, fault tolerance, and compliance with enterprise security requirements.
- Lead systems engineering for Kubernetes based environments, including cluster design, lifecycle management, operational monitoring, and multi tenant workload isolation.
- Design and oversee GitOps based workflows using tools such as GitLab and ArgoCD, ensuring all platform changes are declarative, version controlled, traceable, auditable, and fully reproducible.
- Guide the development and operation of CI/CD pipelines using GitLab, integrating automated testing, security scanning, policy enforcement, and DevSecOps best practices to support secure, scalable software delivery.
- Architect and manage AWS cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code, including Terraform, ensuring configurations remain secure, consistent, and aligned with approved baselines and compliance frameworks.
- Serve as a senior technical advisor to the Air Force PMO, providing guidance on platform capabilities, architectural tradeoffs, scalability considerations, mission onboarding strategies, and long term technical roadmaps.
- Evaluate proposed platform changes for operational impact, scalability, and security posture, ensuring alignment with Authority to Operate (ATO) requirements and supporting audits, assessments, and technical reviews.
- Collaborate with engineering, security, networking, and operational teams to ensure platform readiness, continuity, and successful integration of new capabilities, tools, and services across the enterprise ecosystem.
- Support enterprise grade shared services such as monitoring, logging, identity integration, and access control, contributing to platform governance, operational standards, and best practices.
- Communicate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to PMO leadership, mission stakeholders, and both technical and non technical audiences to support informed decision making.
Requirements
Active TS/SCI security clearance, or the ability to obtain and maintain one throughout employment.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or a related technical discipline; a master's degree is preferred.
- Minimum of 14 years of combined experience in systems engineering, cloud architecture, platform engineering, DevSecOps, or related technical leadership roles.
- Extensive experience architecting, operating, and scaling AWS based cloud infrastructure, including networking, compute, identity, and security services.
- Strong expertise with Kubernetes platform operations, including cluster design, lifecycle management, multi tenant workload isolation, and operational monitoring.
- Demonstrated experience implementing GitOps workflows and declarative configuration management using tools such as GitLab, ArgoCD, or similar technologies.
- Proven ability to design and maintain CI/CD pipelines that incorporate automated testing, security scanning, and policy enforcement aligned with DevSecOps best practices.
- Hands on experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation) to provision, manage, and secure cloud resources.
- Experience supporting or advising a Program Management Office, including translating mission or program requirements into actionable technical plans and architectural decisions.
- Strong understanding of security and compliance frameworks relevant to enterprise cloud platforms, with experience supporting audits, assessments, or authorization processes.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to brief PMO leadership, collaborate across engineering and security teams, and convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Relevant professional certifications (e.g., Security+, CISSP, AWS certifications, Kubernetes certifications).
