Job description
We are seeking a Staff Systems Engineer who will serve as a self-directed technical leader and key contributor in the development of complex electromechanical and enterprise software-enabled automation systems., Systems Engineers are characterized by a disciplined, quantitative approach to system and technology integration, as well as diverse cross-functional backgrounds and broad knowledge of related disciplines. These individuals deploy tools and processes such as Design for Six Sigma and product development methodologies (Waterfall and Agile) within a quality management system to enable more predictable product development and the delivery of high-quality, high-value products. Systems Engineers are responsible for technology integration in projects and systems that include both enterprise software and electromechanical components (hardware and embedded software)., * Independently evaluate highly complex issues using analytical and scientific principles, and plan and execute development activities with minimal supervision.
- Serve as a technical leader within the Systems function and mentor junior engineers.
- Understand unmet user needs and document them for further decomposition as part of the Systems Engineering V-Model.
- Develop system workflows, process mapping, system architecture, exception logic, and theory of operation documentation to guide software and hardware implementation.
- Provide inventive and practical solutions to complex technical problems by selecting appropriate methods using a risk-based approach, including design FMEA and hazard analysis.
- Lead the derivation, documentation, management, and verification of system- and subsystem-level requirements informed by user needs.
- Collaborate closely with mechanical engineering, UX design, software development, and software test teams, and provide guidance to cross-functional contributors.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret data to make sound, data-driven decisions, and present findings to peers and leadership.
- Lead system characterization testing and verification and validation activities, including protocol creation, execution, issue documentation, and reporting.
- Support the transition from research and development to manufacturing and service and assist with field troubleshooting.
- Serve as a liaison with the Quality team on risk management, verification and validation, and subsystem quality activities.
- Apply product development best practices such as Biodesign, Design for Six Sigma, DMAIC, and Reliability Engineering to manage technical risk and drive robust, reliable design.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in science or engineering is required.
- 7 or more years of related engineering experience are required. A combination of professional experience and advanced degrees will be considered.
- Demonstrated proficiency in systems engineering, including requirements management, system integration, testing, risk analysis such as system hazard analysis and FMEA, verification and validation, experimental design, data analysis, root cause analysis, and Design for Six Sigma methodologies.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as a technical leader within multidisciplinary teams. This capability is critical for identifying gaps and opportunities and developing subject matter expertise for the product.
- Experience with Waterfall and Agile product development processes, and experience operating within design control environments.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor junior team members.
- Understanding of process workflows, industrial engineering principles, and LEAN methodologies is a differentiator.
- Understanding of outpatient, retail, or central pharmacy workflows is a differentiator.
- Ability to travel up to 20 percent domestically and internationally.
