Job description
The satellite and network services are currently operated from the UK. Viasat's Satellite Access Stations (SAS) have been built to provide the network link between the satellites and terrestrial communications. The purpose of this position is to work with the SAS Manager to ensure high availability of the services that are operated via the I4 satellites from the SAS site. Networks operated at Paumalu SAS include BGAN, Global Satellite Phone Service (GSPS), Classic Aeronautical service, Fleet / Swift64 and lease services. The day-to-day
- Operations & Maintenance of all Systems and Services as advised by the Paumalu SAS Engineers and SAS Manager
- Preparation of Reports on system performance, operations and services
- Assists preparation and use of Best Practices & Procedures covering system Operations & Maintenance
- Support SAS Engineers with coordination & resolution of network problems and traffic restoration
- Achieve high service availability and honor quality of service requirements to ensure customer satisfaction
- Participate in site acceptance, integration, testing, evaluation and commissioning of new systems at the SAS site
- Execute preventive and corrective maintenance to minimize system outages
- Supervision of Hosted customers, Equipment suppliers and site contractor work
- Provide on call technical support for all systems and networks at the SAS
- Maintain and track daily changes in the network
- Work with equipment manufacturers and service providers when required
- Flexibility to work out of office hours to support special activities and/or critical operational activities
Requirements
- Bachelors degree or technical diploma within a related field (electronics and /or telecommunications) supplemented industry experience. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- 2-5+ years of experience in related filed
- Ability to work under pressure and in demanding situations.
- Strong analytical skill necessary for quick troubleshooting and system restoration during emergency.
- Strong interpersonal skills and willingness to share knowledge.
- Fluency in written and spoken English language
What will help you on the job
- Experience in satellite communication or Earth Station Operations or UMTS network operation
- Knowledge of the Viasat's BGAN system will be an advantage.
- Experience in mobile packet data technologies, specifically GPRS and UMTS
- Experience in Windows, UNIX and/or Linux OS
- Knowledge of IP and networking
- Knowledge of RF measurements techniques
- Knowledge of project management methods and techniques
Benefits & conditions
$38.46 - $60.82 / hourly. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $47.84 - $71.88/ hourly
