Job description

The Technical Department is the center of expertise for Engineering at the Bergen op Zoom site of SABIC. It delivers expert knowledge to all facilities with a focus on the chemical and compounding plants.

The Technical Department consists of multiple teams including Process Engineering, Asset Engineering, Process Control, Inspection & Compliance, Process Safety Management and Energy & Sustainability.

The Asset Engineering team is responsible for the entire life cycle of our assets from design through to eventual replacement. The reliable and efficient operation of these assets during their lifetime is a key deliverable of the department.

For our Asset Engineering team we're looking for a Reliability engineer who's excited to work at the intersection of proven engineering practices and implementing new digital tools. In this role, you'll help us ensure safe, stable, and efficient operations across our production facilities-while also challenging how things should work. If you're someone who loves solving tough problems, facilitating group initiatives, experimenting with emerging technologies and making real-world impact this might be your next step.

How You Can Be The Impact

  • Work with a multi disciplined team and use established reliability methodologies (RCM, FMEA, criticality assessment) to identify and eliminate equipment failures.
  • Partner with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to implement sustainable improvements.
  • Review and optimize preventive maintenance plans using both historical data and new insights.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts for rotating, instrumentation, electrical and fixed assets.
  • Support long-term asset strategies and contribute to the development of next-generation reliability systems using tools such as iALA (integrated asset life cycle assessment)
  • Influence decision-making with clear communication, data-driven recommendations and a collaborative mindset.
  • When things don't go as planned you will lead efforts via RCA (Root cause analysis) to identify the causes and agree actions based on the learnings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline (or related field such as reliability).
  • 3-5 years of reliability, maintenance, or process engineering experience (internships count!).
  • A strong analytical mindset-comfortable working with data and modern digital tools.
  • Curiosity and willingness to challenge the status quo.
  • Working knowledge of reliability principles (FMEA, RCA, RCM).
  • Experience with CMMS/EAM systems; exposure to predictive technologies (vibration, thermography, oil analysis) is a bonus.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex issues in an approachable way.
  • A team player that can bring people together so that we can achieve more.

If you're excited about blending established engineering principles with modern ways of thinking, we'd love to hear from you. Apply now and help us shape the next generation of reliability in the chemical industry.

Benefits & conditions

  • A culture that values creativity, continuous learning, and open discussion. We are building towards a place where we use our mistakes to learn and are open to challenging both ourselves and our stakeholders about how we can do things better.
  • Opportunities to bring fresh ideas to a historically traditional industry.
  • Access to new technologies and encouragement to pilot innovative approaches.
  • Career development paths, mentorship, and training opportunities.
  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits.
  • A workplace where safety, sustainability, and teamwork come first.
