Job description
This position has primary responsibility for operational support, project implementation (lifecycle and additions), automation, and documentation for wired data and wireless network infrastructure within Southern Company and associated subsidiaries. Supported technologies include, but are not limited to, firewalls, routing and switching, wireless, and network security services., * Implement and expand automation to optimize operational efficiency, streamline day-to-day activities, and improve error detection.
- Responsible for engineering project implementation and day-to-day operations for the network infrastructure including Cisco data communications equipment; routers, switches, wireless LAN, voice gateways, and others.
- Applies strong knowledge of data communications principles, architectures, and protocols including TCP/IP, routing, switching, WAN, LAN, and Ethernet technologies to implement efficient network configurations.
- Support network vulnerability management by assisting with remediation efforts and ensuring timely mitigation of identified risks across network platforms.
- Work closely with TO Security and Field Operations Technicians to ensure proper implementation and configuration of new technologies.
- Compliance of engineering standards including documentation, project plans, and implementation.
- Perform end-to-end troubleshooting for data and wireless LAN networks., * Configuration, troubleshooting and administration of Cisco Catalyst switches 9K (chassis and fixed port).
- Configuration, troubleshooting and administration of Cisco routers (ISR 4K, Catalyst 8K).
- Configuration and deployment of Cisco wireless controllers (C9800), access points (91xx) and integration with authentication, authorization, and accounting (AAA) systems in accordance with policies.
- Knowledge of network and dynamic routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, QoS, Multicast, CAPWAP, etc.).
- Ability to analyze the interrelationship between network, server, storage, and application problems quickly, develop alternative solutions, and select the most appropriate action.
- Work with and coordinate field technicians to install network projects and troubleshoot issues.
- Participate in rotating after hours on-call rotation and provide off-hours operational support when necessary.
Requirements
- Ability to develop network automation using Python scripts and Ansible to manage and support Cisco devices, * Ability to handle multiple assignments and conflicting priorities.
- Ability to quickly learn, adapt to, and apply new and emerging technologies

- Takes ownership of work assignments and personal development, * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
- 1-3 years of experience in Enterprise Data (wired) Networking
- 1-3 years of experience in Enterprise Wireless Networking
- CCNA level knowledge expected in networking theory, certification a plus.
- Demonstrated personal computer skills (i.e., Visio, Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
