Job description
The Systems Engineer designs, implements, and maintains secure, reliable infrastructure across on-prem and cloud environments. The role supports scalability, automation, monitoring, and compliance, while collaborating with security and development teams.
This role ensures the platform's reliability, performance, scalability, security, and Section 508 accessibility compliance within a highly regulated federal environment. The Systems Engineer works in an Agile delivery model alongside developers, UI/UX designers, database engineers, and quality engineers to modernize and enhance platform capabilities while maintaining operational excellence., Infrastructure & Environment Management

Design, configure, and maintain development, test, and production environments.

Manage application hosting environments (cloud or hybrid).

Implement system hardening and security configurations aligned with federal standards.

Support patch management, configuration management, and vulnerability remediation activities.
Platform Reliability & Performance

Monitor system health, availability, and performance metrics.

Conduct capacity planning and performance tuning.

Implement automated monitoring, alerting, and logging solutions.

Ensure high availability and minimal downtime.
Security & Compliance
-
Ensure compliance with federal mandates including FISMA and HIPAA requirements.

Support Authority to Operate (ATO) activities and audit readiness.

Implement and access management controls.

Collaborate with cybersecurity teams on vulnerability assessments and remediation plans.
DevOps & Automation

Support CI/CD pipeline integration and release management processes.

Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration management.
-
Participate in Agile ceremonies and continuous improvement initiatives.

Contribute to infrastructure-as-code practices where applicable.
Collaboration & Documentation

Work closely with Full Stack Developers, UI/UX Developers, and Quality Engineers to support platform enhancements.

Maintain system architecture diagrams, configuration documentation, and operational runbooks.

Provide technical support and troubleshooting for production issues.
Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).

8+ years of experience in systems engineering, infrastructure management, or DevOps support.

Experience supporting web-based enterprise applications.

Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or similar).

Familiarity with Linux/Windows server administration.

Experience with monitoring tools and log management platforms.

Knowledge of federal security frameworks (FISMA, NIST, HIPAA).
Qualifications

Experience supporting federal IT systems in a FISMA-regulated environment.

Knowledge of infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).

Experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions).

Familiarity with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).

Experience supporting Section 508 accessibility compliance initiatives.
-
Security+ or similar certification.
