Job description
The Junior IT Network Administrator, under the direction of the IT Network Manager, is responsible for the design, monitoring and maintenance of all network resources and all data centers across the Sault Tribe. This includes switches, routers, servers, firewalls, internet and all of the services that depend on those to function on a daily basis. Works closely with all other IT staff to support all network needs and support issues related to accessing or connecting to network resources. Monitors network to proactively identify, isolate, and respond to any network issues. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (includes, but is not limited to, the following): · Provide technical support to IT teams/users by diagnosing and resolving issues across all network infrastructure and equipment. · Collaborate with IT teams to research, recommend, and implement network upgrades, replacements, and design. · Build and maintain strong relationships with network vendors to ensure ongoing support and service. · Contribute to network project planning, change management, strategy development, and budgeting. · Support network integration, security, and transition to cloud services, including cloud networking, storage, and infrastructure. · Design, implement, and maintain access controls to optimize network performance and security. · Enforce network and security best practices, including firewall management, network configurations, and updates. · Install, test, and troubleshoot structured cabling systems to ensure reliable connectivity and optimal performance. · Manage and maintain network-related servers to ensure continuous connectivity, high availability, and reliable system performance. · Demonstrate strong technical expertise, problem-solving ability, and effective communication while working independently or within a team. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Position heavy with lifting of 100 pounds maximum and frequent lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds. Physical factors include constant use of color vision, typing; frequent standing, walking, sitting, reaching, use of hearing, driving, bending; occasional pushing/pulling, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, manual handling, use of smell, near/midrange/far vision and field of vision. Working conditions include occasional exposure to weather, wet/humidity, noise and air quality. Potential hazards include constant computer use and occasional exposure to electric shock, high exposed places, chemicals and equipment.
Requirements
Education: Associate's degree in computer information technology, Computer Science, Network Administration or similar degree required or three years of experience in networking may be considered in lieu of a degree. Experience: No additional experience is required. Certification/License: Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable by the Sault Tribe Insurance Department. Must comply with annual driver's license review and insurability standards with the Sault Tribe Insurance Department. Must undergo a Criminal background investigation done under the rules of the National Indian Gaming Commission. Must comply with the Sault Tribe's Drug-Free Workplace Policy which may include random drug tests. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Must have in-depth knowledge of network protocols and core networking concepts. Must have a strong understanding of network infrastructure. Must have proficiency in computer/server operating systems. Must have experience with switching configurations, firewalls, and routing. Requires knowledge of network security principles, including firewalls, access controls, and best practices. Requires understanding of cloud and hybrid cloud technologies, including network integration and architecture. Must have familiarity with backup, disaster recovery strategies, and business continuity planning. Must have awareness of current IT trends, industry standards, and networking best practices. Must possess strong technical skills in networking, monitoring tools, and device configuration/management. Must have excellent communication, collaboration, documentation, and customer service skills. Must have proven ability to multitask, manage projects, adapt to new technologies, and perform effectively under pressure. Native American preferred.
