Job description
As a Senior Engineer on the Frontend Platform team, you will develop web components, improve shared architecture, and manage AWS resources, ensuring high-quality development across Ancestry's web services., Ancestry is looking for a Senior Engineer, Frontend Platform, to join our team. You will work on the Web Platform team to solve, implement, deliver, and adopt shared architecture, systems, libraries, and components. You will solve problems in both the frontend and backend. Using a variety of technologies and skill sets, you will play a critical role in ensuring efficient, high-quality development across the company.
As a member of the Web Platform team, you will help with an assortment of development projects that will help Ancestry migrate to a new web component-based platform. You will help develop web components, define release engineering processes for our frontend, and support the overall maintenance of our web platform for all frontend teams at Ancestry.
What you will do...
- Improve shared architecture, systems, and tools across web services and web pages
- Create frontend components and libraries using various web technologies
- Facilitate the adoption of shared code and libraries in web pages and web services
- Implement and manage frontend routing and request filtering processes
- Manage AWS-related resources
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience with JavaScript / Node.js and frontend technologies such as HTML, CSS, and frontend frameworks like React, Vue, Svelte, Lit, Angular, etc.
- Experience writing or maintaining web component libraries
- Experience with server frameworks such as Fastify and Express
- Experience with reverse-proxy or other TCP/HTTP transport technologies and methods
- Experience with deployment and containerization concepts like CI/CD, IAC, and related technologies (e.g., Terraform, Docker)
- Experience with cloud-based compute infrastructure
- Experience with localization and accessibility best practices
- Ability to write effective tests (such as with BDD, TDD)
- Familiarity with AI coding assistants and agentic coding workflows and tools
Nice to have...
- Familiarity with SEO best practices
- Understanding of UX design principles
- Experiences with content delivery networks
- Application of security and privacy best practices
- Experience working with legacy code bases and technologies
- Experience with advanced web technologies, including web components, container queries, web workers, etc.
- Experience with Cloud-based server infrastructure, such as EC2, ECS, EKS, Fargate, and Route 53

Benefits & conditions
As a signatory of the ParityPledge in Support of Women and the ParityPledge in Support of People of Color, Ancestry values pay transparency and pay equity. We are pleased to share the base salary range for this position: $114,480 - $139,590 with eligibility for bonus, equity and comprehensive benefits including health, dental and vision.
