Job description

We're looking for an experienced WordPress Developer with full stack capabilities to join our in-person web team. You'll primarily build and support custom WordPress websites from Figma designs, using Gutenberg, Tailwind CSS, and work with both front-end and back-end technologies.

  • This position is open for remote or in-person work. Preference will be given to candidates who are able to work three days per week from our Grand Rapids, Michigan office. If remote, occasional travel will be required to our Michigan office for training and other events as needed.

  • In addition to web development, you'll help maintain server environments, APIs, and database functionality to support our growing list of Catholic clients across the country.

  • This role is ideal for a developer who thrives in a collaborative environment and enjoys working across the stack-from styling responsive layouts to integrating APIs and optimizing performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop responsive, accessible WordPress websites from Figma design files

  • Build custom WordPress themes and plugins using Tailwind CSS, JavaScript, and PHP

  • Maintain and work with existing WordPress sites for performance, security, and content updates

  • Integrate with and maintain RESTful APIs, including OAuth and JSON structures

  • Troubleshoot and debug front-end and back-end issues across multiple sites

  • Support and manage web hosting environments (e.g., Apache/Nginx, DNS, SSL, backups)

  • Optimize MySQL/PostgreSQL queries and manage database schema design

  • Participate in weekly team standup meetings

Requirements

Experience using Gutenberg to build Wordpress websites is required.

  • Professional WordPress development experience (custom themes/plugins required)

  • Proficiency with HTML, Tailwind CSS, JavaScript/jQuery, and responsive design

  • Solid experience with PHP (Symfony a plus) and database management (MySQL/PostgreSQL)

  • Comfortable working with Linux servers, cPanel/WHM, cron jobs, PHPMyAdmin and SSL certificates

  • Familiarity with version control tools like Git

  • Experience integrating and documenting RESTful APIs (Postman/Swagger helpful)

  • Understanding of web security best practices (e.g., SQL injection, XSS mitigation)
