Job description
As a Platform Engineer - Backup & Recovery, you will take full responsibility for the lifecycle of both existing and future environments, platforms, and solutions. Your focus: continuously improving platform features, driving innovation, and enhancing user experience. Working closely with technology vendors and our customer teams, you'll ensure all data protection and resiliency standards are not only met, but exceeded, all while applying standardized guardrails, driving automation and best-in-class practices.
Our DMS platform is run on a segregated, dedicated private cloud infrastructure managed in-house for maximum resilience, spanning multiple availability zones. We integrate a wide array of storage targets, including public cloud services and S3-compatible platforms built on Pure FlashBlade//S and NetApp StorageGRID in our own datacenters, plus a long-term archiving tier.
Serving over 4,000 data protection endpoints ranging from Oracle, MS-SQL, SAP, Sybase, PaaS, and container platforms to VMs on various public/private clouds, our environments generate more than 25,000 recovery points daily, maximizing data integrity and uptime for critical applications.
Your passion for data protection and automation should simplify day-2 operations and drive cost-effectiveness, leaving room for implementing new security features and streamlining (new) customer deployments and facilitating new projects. This allows you to guide our customers in understanding their data protection needs and implementing solutions. Your expertise will help offer strategic insights into RFP's and RFI's, making informed decisions rooted in customer requirements and your technical proficiency.
What You'll Do:
- Own and manage complex data recovery platforms (primarily leveraging Commvault), aligning with our plan-build-run methodology.
- Ensure platform availability, aiming for 100% uptime and maximum customer satisfaction.
- Support and evolve diverse storage back-end which includes public cloud and on-prem S3-compatible solutions.
- Work closely with the product teams of our technology vendors, driving them to continuously improve and enhance their products.
- Help customers protect workloads on VMware VCF, OpenStack, AWS, Azure, Kubernetes, and more.
- Deliver consumable, customer-centric features and capabilities end-to-end.
- Automate repetitive processes, continually optimizing platform operations and deployments.
- Provide hands-on advisory and technical support, contribute to RFI/RFP processes, and assist in scoping and designing new solutions.
Requirements
- First and foremost, you have a genuine passion for data protection, security, and resilience.
- You enjoy teamwork and thrive on challenges and like collaborating with both peers and customers.
- You bring relevant experience as an engineer in data management/protection environments, with hands-on expertise in Commvault (strongly preferred) and/or Rubrik.
- You're comfortable in highly secure, complex environments.
- Proficient in Linux and/or Windows ecosystems.
- Experienced across private (VMware/OpenStack) and public cloud platforms (Azure, AWS).
- Skilled in Infrastructure as Code: Terraform, Ansible and/or Chef and have experience with scripting and automation (Python, Bash, PowerShell, etc.)
- Solid understanding of multi-tenant architectures and security concepts.
