Job description
HMRC are recruiting Senior Enterprise Architects to help shape how technology supports borders, trade and taxation, across one of the largest and most complex operational environments in the public sector.
As a Senior Enterprise Architect within the Borders & Trade domain, you'll operate at the intersection of policy, business and technology, setting architectural direction that ensures services are secure, scalable and sustainable.
What you'll be doing
In this role, you will:
- Own and evolve enterprise architecture strategy for the Borders & Trade domain
- Define and govern architectural principles, standards, roadmaps and reference architectures
- Provide enterprise-level assurance and decision support on major technology investments
- Guide architectural decision-making, clearly explaining trade-offs, risks and benefits
- Influence policy and technical direction across enterprise operations
- Horizon-scan emerging technologies, trends and sourcing models
- Collaborate closely with senior stakeholders across business, technology and commercial teams
- Promote innovation while reducing technical complexity and improving resilience and security
- Support and strengthen enterprise architecture capability across HMRC
Requirements
- Has significant experience operating as an Enterprise Architect (or equivalent)
- Has shaped architecture strategy and roadmaps for large-scale platforms or services
- Is confident developing and governing architectural standards and principles
- Thinks beyond individual systems to understand whole-enterprise impact
- Is comfortable supporting complex decisions and balancing risk, value and sustainability
- Can engage and influence senior stakeholders, explaining complex concepts clearly
- Is curious about emerging technologies and how they can be applied at scale
Experience with cloud platforms (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) and professional architecture practices or qualifications is particularly valuable.
