Job description
We are seeking a Senior Cloud Platform Engineer who combines strong software engineering principles with extensive, hands-on experience in cloud and Kubernetes environments. This role is pivotal in architecting and delivering foundational Infrastructure as Code (IaC) frameworks, automation services, and reusable cloud blueprints. The ideal candidate will empower engineering teams across Citi to adopt AWS and GCP securely and efficiently at scale, focusing on platform tooling and internal service integration rather than direct application development or CI/CD pipeline management., * Architect, develop, and enhance reusable Infrastructure as Code (IaC) frameworks and modules using Terraform for AWS and GCP services, including compute, storage, networking, and IAM.
- Establish and promote best practices and design patterns for IaC to be used across the engineering community.
- Define, implement, and maintain Kubernetes and Helm standards to simplify the deployment of secure, cloud-integrated workloads.
- Develop Python-based automation services, command-line interfaces (CLIs), validators, and diagnostic tools to improve developer workflows and enhance platform reliability.
- Engineer and evolve the end-user adoption of internally engineered solutions through the creation of blueprints, templates, documentation, and reference architectures.
- Define and manage the service contracts and integration interfaces consumed by application and platform teams.
- Liaise with other teams, including application, security, and networking, to align on architectural decisions and resolve integration bottlenecks.
- Lead complex troubleshooting and optimization efforts for platform components spanning IaC, cloud services, and Kubernetes.
- Mentor other cloud and platform developers on best practices for IaC, Kubernetes patterns, Python tooling, and secure cloud design.
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience in a software engineering, cloud engineering, or platform engineering capacity.
- Deep, hands-on experience with authoring Terraform modules and a strong interest in advanced module framework design.
- Practical experience with a major cloud provider (AWS or GCP), including provisioning via IaC, IAM design, storage patterns, and networking fundamentals.
- Extensive, hands-on experience with Kubernetes and Helm for defining and managing application workloads.
- Proficiency in Python for developing automation services and platform tooling.
- Solid software engineering fundamentals, including object-oriented programming, modular design, and writing clean, maintainable code.
- Deep understanding of microservices concepts and the patterns for how distributed applications consume platform APIs, cloud storage, IAM, and networking services.
- Proven ability to lead design discussions, influence architectural decisions, and drive technology adoption across multiple teams.
- Experience with Linux and a strong understanding of its fundamentals.
- This is not a full-stack application development, DevOps/CI-CD pipeline engineering, Kubernetes cluster administration, or SRE-specific role., * Bachelor's degree/University degree or equivalent experience
