Job description

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the world's most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud platform. AWS Sales, Marketing, and Global Services (SMGS) drives revenue, adoption, and growth across diverse customer segments from small and mid-market accounts to large scale enterprise and public sector organizations. Our team builds and supports products and applications for AWS sellers while managing large-scale infrastructure across first-party (1P) and third-party (3P) platforms.

The AWS Field Experience (AFX) , Revenue Lifecycle Automation and Intelligence (RAIn) team is seeking a passionate, innovative, and results oriented Software Development Engineer III to design, architect, and build scalable solutions that empower our field teams. You'll bring industry best practices and standards to solve complex business problems, define meaningful metrics, and create systems that operate reliably at scale.

As an SDE III on the AFX team, you will architect and build critical solutions using the latest AWS technologies to innovate in its Revenue Lifecycle and Private Pricing area. You'll deliver mission-critical capabilities to field teams, embedding operational knowledge and encoding best practices into every solution you create. Your role will involve driving technical excellence by defining architecture standards, implementing scalable designs, and solving complex business challenges that enable our field organization to operate effectively at scale. As part of the broader AWS Sales and Marketing organization, you'll collaborate across teams to contribute to cloud strategy and potentially influence future AWS products, while also leading and mentoring other engineers and establishing technical direction for the team.

Key job responsibilities

Key job responsibilities

  • Lead Technical Strategy and Architecture - Define technical strategies and roadmaps spanning multiple teams, investigating and developing strategies to frame solution sets when the business problem is known but the technical strategy is not yet defined.

  • Mentor and Develop Engineering Talent - Lead process creation and improvement projects while mentoring and coaching less experienced members of the organization.

  • Design and Deliver Complex Solutions - Work on complex problems with multiple risks and roadblocks, designing and architecting cross-functional solutions.

  • Drive Operational Excellence - Ensure operational excellence by identifying opportunities for automation, leading operational support, and resolving root causes of issues.

  • Influence Cross-Team Collaboration - Collaborate with customers, stakeholders, and partner teams to convert business needs into technical designs while building consensus.

  • Deliver High-Quality, Scalable Software - Apply expertise in software engineering, agile methodology, and test-driven design to accomplish complex work assignments autonomously.

A day in the life

We have a team culture that encourages innovation and we expect team members and management alike to take high degree of ownership for their program vision and execution of ideas. You will be joining a team that is diverse and experienced in all aspects of Software Development and are willing to collaborate with and mentor new members. We are looking for someone that is a self-starter, someone that approaches complex business questions with data and curiosity, and a person that dives below the surface to identify the root cause and "so what" rather than just superficial trends.

Requirements

5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience

  • 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
