The Senior Database Administrator is a strategic and technical leader responsible for the architecture, governance, performance, security, and lifecycle management of all enterprise database platforms across all of the tribe's divisions including Governmental, Gaming and Hospitality, Health Care, and Enterprises. The Senior Database Administrator leads the architectural design for database systems supporting the organization's diverse enterprise applications across all divisions as well as providing technical leadership, and mentoring to team members. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (includes, but is not limited to, the following) · Lead the architectural design of database systems supporting the organization's diverse enterprise applications across all divisions. · Design, implement and manage database high availability (HA), backups and recovery procedures to minimize data loss and downtime in case of system failures. · Collaborate with the Data and Applications team, as well as other IT teams, to design and implement data pools, lakes, and warehouses for centralized data storage and analysis. · Develop and maintain Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes to integrate data from disparate sources into data warehouses for efficient reporting and analysis. · Support the integration of Business Intelligence (BI) tools with databases to facilitate data-driven decision making within the organization. · Lead cloud database migrations and hybrid architecture strategy. · Design scalable cloud-native database solutions. · Serve as escalation point for complex database incidents. · Participate in vendor evaluations and technical contract review. · Work with Application Specialists and Data Governance Admin to define access levels and permissions for users based on their roles and responsibilities. · Monitor database activity for suspicious behavior and implement measures to prevent unauthorized access and data breaches. · Stay up to date on industry best practices, emerging database technologies, and security threats to ensure continuous improvement in database management. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: (includes, but is not limited to, the following) · The IT Department is a 24/7 operation; working nights, weekends, holidays and on-call should be expected. CONTACTS: Immediate peers, peers in other departments, immediate supervisor/manager, managers in other departments, executives, Board of Directors, customers and outside vendors/service providers. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Position heavy with lifting of 100 pounds maximum and frequent lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds. Physical factors include constant use of color vision, typing; frequent standing, walking, sitting, reaching, use of hearing, driving, bending; occasional pushing/pulling, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, manual handling, use of smell, near/midrange/far vision and field of vision. Working conditions include occasional exposure to weather, wet/humidity, noise and air quality. Potential hazards include constant computer use and occasional exposure to electric shock, high exposed places, chemicals and equipment.
Requirements
Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems Management or similar IT field required or five years of demonstrated experience in database administration in lieu of degree. Experience: Minimum five years progressive experience in enterprise database administration required. Experience designing high-availability and disaster recovery environments preferred. Demonstrated experience leading complex database migration or modernization projects preferred. Experience mentoring or providing technical leadership preferred. Certification/License: Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate and Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, strongly preferred. Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable by the Sault Tribe Insurance Department. Must comply with annual driver's license review and insurability standards with the Sault Tribe Insurance Department. Must undergo a Criminal background investigation done under the rules of the National Indian Gaming Commission. Must comply with the Sault Tribe's Drug-Free Workplace Policy which may include random drug tests. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Expert level knowledge of relational database management systems (RDBMS) with a focus on Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Databases, and experience with all relevant database platforms used by the organization. Advanced expertise of data security best practices, data access control mechanisms, and data governance policies and procedures. Strong understanding of data warehousing architecture, data integration techniques (ETL processes), and Business Intelligence (BI) frameworks. Familiarity with cloud-based database storage and data processing solutions required. Must have knowledge of database performance optimization techniques and tools for troubleshooting and improving database efficiency. Strong understanding of regulatory compliance in gaming, healthcare, and government environments. Proven skills in database installation, configuration, maintenance, and optimization. Expertise in implementing and managing database backup and recovery procedures to ensure data availability. Ability to analyze database performance metrics, identify bottlenecks, and troubleshoot database-related issues. Skills in developing and maintaining ETL processes to integrate data from various sources into other applications, downloads or data warehouses. Proficiency in writing and executing SQL queries for data manipulation, retrieval, and analysis. Excellent written and verbal communication skills to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences. Cross functional technical leadership and mentoring. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve complex database issues. Keen eye for detail to ensure accuracy in database configuration, data management, and adherence to data governance policies. Proven ability to work collaboratively with the IT Data and Applications team (Data and Application Administrators, Project Managers, etc.) and other IT teams to ensure seamless database integration within the IT infrastructure. Strong desire to stay up to date on emerging database technologies, cloud solutions, and security best practices. Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Must maintain strict confidentiality of all tribal data and business operations.
