Job description

The Enterprise Protection Program (EPP) is seeking a Senior Security Engineer to join our team and help identify, investigate, and mitigate insider threats to Amazon., Threat Investigation & Analysis:

  • Build sophisticated queries and process large datasets and forensic data to identify and pursue potential insider threat activity

  • Apply deep analytical skills to uncover new, complex security patterns and anomalies Investigative Ownership:

  • Conduct and lead investigations into potential insider threats in partnership with teams across legal, HR, and engineering

  • Lead discussions with employees related to potential security concerns

  • Provide comprehensive but digestible technical-based reporting to partners and leadership Innovation & Tool Development:

  • Develop proactive security mechanisms that leverage technical expertise. These solutions may leverage GenAI-based tools.

  • Design and implement tools for detection, mitigation, and prevention of insider threat activity

  • Drive security process improvements to strengthen Amazon's internal threat protection capabilities Leadership & Impact:

  • Contribute to strategic security planning

  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to team knowledge sharing

  • Participate in on-call responsibilities (typically one week every two months)

A day in the life Drive High-Impact Security Solutions: You'll tackle complex insider threat cases and spearhead strategic projects that directly reduce risk across Amazon's global operations. Each day brings (sometimes many!) unique challenges as you analyze threat patterns, investigate security incidents, and develop innovative approaches to protect the organization.

Collaborate Across the Enterprise: Your day involves dynamic interactions with internal security stakeholders, engineering teams, and service partners across both Amazon and AWS. You'll facilitate cross-functional meetings, provide security expertise to diverse teams, and build relationships that enable effective threat mitigation at scale.

Lead Innovation and Process Development: As a senior team member, you'll spend significant time designing and developing tools that streamline insider threat detection and response. You'll identify gaps in current processes, architect scalable solutions, and establish best practices that can be adopted organization-wide.

Mentor and Guide: Throughout your day, you'll provide guidance to junior team members, share your expertise in security investigations, and help build the next generation of insider threat investigators.

Requirements

We seek a senior security professional with experience diving deep into various types of log data and forensic results as well as conducting and leading complex and ambiguous technical investigations. The ideal candidate also combines strong analytical and investigation skills with innovative thinking to develop "think big" solutions that advance our security capabilities. This role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on Amazon's security posture while working with innovative tools and technologies in a collaborative, fast-paced environment., 5+ years of work in identifying security issues and risks, and developing mitigation plans experience

  • 5+ years of non-internship background in troubleshooting systems issues, analyzing logs, or automating complex tasks using command line tools experience
  • 4+ years of (non-internship) scripting, programming, and security code review in common programming languages experience
  • Experience (non-internship) in industry-based security vulnerabilities identification, attack patterns, and remediation techniques
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience conducting insider threat, Cyber, incident response, or equivalent investigations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • professional certification in information security (SANS GIAC, CISSP, or equivalent)
  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
  • Experience with AWS services or other cloud offerings
  • Experience implementing security solutions at the business division level or equivalent

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
