Job description

This position performs specialized duties in the management of the department's information technology systems. Major Duties

  • Maintains the department's information technology (IT) infrastructure/network.
  • Maintains a variety of servers.
  • Completes daily, weekly and monthly data backups.
  • Maintains door, intercom and camera electronic controls.
  • Maintains desktop and laptop computers.
  • Installs, updates, troubleshoots and repairs a variety of software programs.
  • Maintains video cameras and recording equipment.
  • Maintains Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phones.
  • Installs, updates, troubleshoots and maintains computer and telephone hardware.
  • Maintains printers and other peripherals.
  • Maintains internet filtering software according to school district standards.
  • Assists in the maintenance of surveillance hardware and software.
  • Trains personnel in the use of computer hardware and software.
  • Maintains department inventory; coordinates the disposal of salvage equipment.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned., Complexity/Scope of Work
  • The work consists of varied specialized duties. Frequent changes to information technology standards and practices contribute to the complexity of the position.
  • The purpose of this position is to manage the department's IT systems. Successful performance contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of department operations.

Physical Demands/Work Environment Occasionally

  • Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, or poles.
  • Moving oneself in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments, including tight and confined spaces.
  • Operating machinery and/or power tools.
  • Driving a County vehicle or a personal vehicle for County business.
  • Working in small and/or enclosed spaces.
  • Light work that includes carrying objects up to 20 pounds.

  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Moving to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
  • Adjusting or moving objects up to 5 pounds in all directions.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.

  • Assessing the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of county and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of information technologies best practices.
  • Knowledge of network backup and recovery principles.
  • Knowledge of server hardware and software support principles.
  • Knowledge of wireless networking principles.
  • Knowledge of network administration principles.
  • Knowledge of video surveillance camera systems.
  • Skill in decision-making and problem-solving.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in troubleshooting, diagnosing, and correcting system issues.
  • Skill in installing, maintaining, and repairing a variety of computer hardware and software systems.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing in the English language and orally in the Spanish language., * Must have a high school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
  • Must have 3 years of related experience., * Must possess a valid and current Texas driver's license.
  • Drug and Alcohol Policy applies to this job. Pre-employment drug/alcohol testing, Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and criminal background checks are required.
