Job description
As an AI Developer, you will be a core member of the AI function within the Digitization arm of the Digital Solutions Team. Your primary responsibility will be to design, develop, and deploy inhouse AI-driven applications tailored to VTU's engineering and business needs. You will translate defined AI use cases into robust, scalable, and production-ready solutions, working closely with the AI Inhouse Consultant, business stakeholders, and IT teams. This role is hands-on and technical, focused on building real applications that deliver measurable value across the organization. This role is critical in turning AI strategy into tangible solutions. The AI Developer will directly build the tools and applications that enable VTU to leverage AI in daily operations, improving efficiency, quality, and innovation across the organization.
Your responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain inhouse AI applications aligned with VTU use cases
- Build solutions leveraging modern AI technologies (e.g., LLMs, NLP, automation, predictive models)
- Develop backend services, APIs, and integrations with existing enterprise systems
- Ensure code quality, maintainability, and scalability of solutions
- Translate functional requirements into technical architectures, define system components, data flows, as well as integration patterns, and select appropriate frameworks, models, and tools for each use case
- Collaborate with IT to ensure alignment with enterprise architecture standards
- Integrate third-party AI services (e.g., Azure OpenAI, APIs) into applications
- Ensure data quality and governance compliance (GDPR, EU AI Act considerations)
- Implement CI/CD pipelines for AI solutions
- Work closely with AI Inhouse Consultant and stakeholders to refine requirements
- Contribute to technical documentation and knowledge sharing
- Stay up to date with emerging AI technologies and development frameworks
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or related field
- 3-7+ years of software development experience
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP)
- Experience in engineering consultancy or similar industry is a plus
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python (preferred), JavaScript/TypeScript, or similar
- Hands-on experience with AI/ML frameworks and tools (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, LangChain, OpenAI APIs)
- Knowledge of API and microservices development
- Familiarity with databases (SQL/NoSQL) and data processing tools
- Understanding of prompt engineering and LLM-based application design
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Ability to work independently on complex technical challenges
- Capability of explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Fluent in German and English (both written and spoken) - mandatory

For this position, we offer a gross annual salary starting at € 68,000 (not all-inclusive) based on full-time employment. Depending on qualifications and experience, a higher salary may be offered.
