Job description
As a Manual Software Tester at Sicon, you will be responsible for validating the quality of our business-critical software products, with a strong focus on Sage-integrated solutions, web applications, and mobile applications used daily by our customers.
You will work closely with developers, product owners, and test automation engineers to ensure that new features, integrations, and fixes behave exactly as customers expect, protecting both data integrity and customer trust.
This role is hands-on, pragmatic, and embedded within Agile delivery teams., Manual Testing & Product Quality
- Design and execute manual test cases for Sicon applications, integrations, and related tooling
- Perform functional, regression, smoke, and exploratory testing ahead of releases
- Ensure changes do not introduce regressions into existing customer-facing functionality
Defect Management & Investigation
- Accurately reproduce, log, and track testing defects using Azure DevOps
- Provide clear, developer-friendly defect reports including:
- Steps to reproduce
- Expected vs actual behaviour
- Screenshots, logs, or supporting data
- Retest fixes and confirm resolution in line with acceptance criteria
Collaboration within R&D
- Work closely with developers and Team Leads during sprint delivery
- Collaborate with Product Owners to clarify requirements and identify test scenarios early
- Support Test Automation Engineers by identifying:
- High-value regression scenarios
- Stable functionality suitable for automation
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including stand-ups, refinements, reviews, and retrospectives
Data Awareness
- Perform basic data validation (e.g. checking database values or outputs where required)
- Understand and test against realistic customer scenarios, including upgrades and legacy behaviour
Continuous Improvement
- Contribute to improving manual test coverage, checklists, and test approach
- Share product knowledge and common failure patterns across teams
- Promote a strong quality-first culture across Sicon R&D
Requirements
Essential
- Experience in a manual software testing role, ideally within business systems or desktop applications
- Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle and Agile delivery
- Ability to think through complex workflows and spot edge cases
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Confidence working directly with developers on defect investigation
Desirable
- Familiarity with Azure DevOps for test cases and defect tracking
- Basic knowledge of SQL or data validation techniques
- Understanding of upgrade, migration, or backward-compatibility testing
- Exposure to test automation concepts (no expectation to write automated tests)
