Job description
The Applied Machine Learning Group is seeking a Software Engineer to build and scale systems that power content understanding, metadata enrichment, and personalization across Paramount's global content catalog. In this role, you will work on the core infrastructure and internal tools that enable high- quality metadata ingestion and curation directly impacting content discovery, recommendations, and user experience across Paramount's streaming portfolio. This is a highly cross-functional role at the intersection of content, data, and machine learning, partnering closely with ML engineers, product teams, and data stakeholders to bring metadata-driven experiences to life. The ideal candidate will be:

Enthusiastic about spanning the full lifecycle of a content data system from ingest and enrichment through deployment, monitoring, and downstream delivery

Invested in going beyond moving data to understanding it; developing domain-level familiarity with the content catalog, and how data quality issues upstream affect systems downstream

Committed to continuous improvement; takes ownership of feature implementation, plans for future maintainability

Skilled at partnering with Product to translate evolving content strategy into concrete engineering decisions; asking clarifying questions and iterating toward well-defined solutions under ambiguity

Collaborative across engineering teams; working with upstream providers and downstream consumers to define integration contracts, and ensuring the sequencing of changes so that features ship cohesively

Eager to leverage AI agents in the software development process for understanding code, troubleshooting, developing new features, and fixing issues Responsibilities Include: Metadata Ingestion & Enrichment

Design, build, and maintain backend services that support content understanding, metadata modeling, and enrichment workflows

Contribute to systems that process and manage metadata for a large-scale, global content catalog Backend Services & Data Modeling

Maintain and expand the API layer and data models across two provider contexts (Paramount+ and PlutoTV) as the codebase converges toward a unified multi-tenant architecture

Uphold engineering quality through test coverage, code reviews, and consistent application of coding standards Internal Tooling & Curation

Support editorial curation workflows that feed the personalization experience, ensuring curators have the tooling and data quality needed to make effective content decisions, Google Cloud Platform: Cloud SQL, BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Secret Manager, GKE

Google Cloud Pub/Sub subscriber/publisher patterns

Elasticsearch index management, full-text search, mapping updates

Experience building content metadata management systems

Exposure to personalization, recommendation systems, or ML-adjacent platforms

Experience working in event-driven architectures, designing systems around async pipelines

Requirements
3+ years of professional software engineering experience

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience

Strong proficiency in a Python web API and ORM framework (Django/ORM/DRF preferred)

Knowledge of cloud infrastructure including managed databases, object storage, and container orchestration (GCP, AWS, or Azure)

API design with backwards compatibility across multiple consumer teams
-
Relational data modeling for transactional systems
-
Experience building data engineering pipelines, including best practices like defensive coding at ingestion boundaries, instrumentation to surface anomalies early, and awareness of data drift so that quality issues are caught before they propagate downstream
Benefits & conditions
Hiring Salary Range: $110,000.00 - 150,000.00.
The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
