VP, Platform Engineering and Database Infrastructure

• Lead and define the platform and database infrastructure strategy that directly enables compliance outcomes for millions of Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries.

In this role, you will own the design, delivery, and operational excellence of the foundational systems that power our SaaS platform - including cloud infrastructure, data platforms, databases, DevOps tooling, and site reliability. You are a strategic leader who can think at the architecture level, build and scale high-performing engineering teams, and partner effectively with product, security, and executive stakeholders. You bring deep technical credibility, a track record of modernizing enterprise infrastructure in regulated industries, and the leadership presence to drive alignment across the organization. This position reports directly to the Chief Technology Officer., Platform Engineering & Architecture

• Define and execute the multi-year platform engineering roadmap, aligning infrastructure strategy with business growth, product velocity, and regulatory requirements.

• Lead the architecture, provisioning, and continuous improvement of Beacon's cloud infrastructure across AWS, Azure, or GCP, ensuring scalability, resilience, and cost efficiency.

• Oversee CI/CD pipeline strategy, infrastructure-as-code adoption, and DevOps toolchain modernization to accelerate engineering delivery across all product teams.

• Champion site reliability engineering (SRE) principles, establishing SLOs, SLAs, and incident response practices that uphold the highest standards of platform availability and performance. Database Infrastructure & Data Management

• Oversee the design, management, and optimization of Beacon's database infrastructure, spanning relational (SQL Server, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL systems at scale.

• Drive database performance, availability, and disaster recovery strategies, ensuring data integrity and business continuity across all environments.

• Lead the evaluation and adoption of modern data platform technologies, including data warehousing, streaming pipelines, and analytics infrastructure, in support of Beacon's product and reporting needs.

• Partner with the security and compliance teams to ensure all database and platform systems meet HIPAA, SOC 2, and other applicable regulatory requirements. Leadership & Team Development

• Build, mentor, and retain a high-performing team of platform engineers, database administrators, and site reliability engineers, fostering a culture of excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement.

• Establish clear goals, performance metrics, and career development pathways for all direct and indirect reports across the platform organization.

• Serve as a key engineering voice at the executive level, translating complex infrastructure concepts and tradeoffs into clear, business-aligned recommendations for the CTO and executive team.

• Partner cross-functionally with Software Development, Product, Security, and QA leadership to align platform capabilities with the overall engineering roadmap. Operational Excellence & Governance

• Own platform observability, monitoring, and alerting strategies using modern tooling (e.g., Datadog, Grafana, PagerDuty) to ensure proactive identification and resolution of infrastructure issues.

• Manage platform and infrastructure budgets, optimize cloud spend, and provide executive-level reporting on cost, capacity, and platform health.

• Drive vendor evaluation and management for cloud, tooling, and infrastructure partnerships, ensuring the best value and fit for Beacon's technical and business needs.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related technical field; Master's degree preferred.

• 12+ years of progressive experience in platform engineering, infrastructure, or related technical disciplines, with at least 5 years in a senior engineering leadership role (Director or VP level).

• Deep expertise in cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP), container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker), and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Ansible, or equivalent).

• Proven experience leading large-scale database infrastructure, including relational databases (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL systems, in high-availability production environments.

• Strong background in site reliability engineering, including SLO/SLA definition, incident management, and on-call culture development.

• Experience operating in regulated industries (healthcare, fintech, or similar) with a working knowledge of HIPAA, SOC 2, and related compliance frameworks.

• Demonstrated ability to build, scale, and lead distributed engineering teams across multiple disciplines; track record of attracting and retaining top infrastructure talent.

• Experience managing infrastructure budgets and cloud cost optimization at the enterprise scale., * Visionary technical leader who can articulate a compelling long-term infrastructure strategy and inspire teams and executives to rally behind it.

• Excellent executive communication and presentation skills; comfortable translating complex infrastructure tradeoffs into business outcomes for non-technical audiences.

• Strong bias for action and operational rigor; able to balance strategic planning with hands-on urgency when production issues or critical decisions demand it.

• High degree of integrity, accountability, and commitment to building secure, compliant, and highly reliable systems in a regulated healthcare environment.

Compensation: $180,000 - $220,000 per year plus benefits, bonus, and equity
