Job description
Our engineering team builds a broad set of internal and customer-facing tools - from kitchen display systems and order management to mobile apps for field staff and customer-facing ordering experiences. We move fast, and our engineers (including backend engineers) often need to build UI quickly.
We're looking for a UX Designer to own our design system and component library. Your primary mission is to give every engineer on the team - regardless of their frontend depth - the building blocks to ship beautiful, consistent interfaces in React without needing to make design decisions from scratch. This is a high-impact, highly visible role where your work will touch every product we build.
Responsibilities:
- Create and own a design system in Figma (tokens, typography, color, spacing, iconography) that maps 1:1 to React components implemented by our engineers
- Design UI flows and screens for web and mobile products, then translate them into reusable patterns
- Conduct lightweight usability reviews of new features and flag UX inconsistencies across our product suite
- Partner async with our NYC-based engineering team, communicating design decisions clearly in writing and in handoff documentation
- Collaborate with engineers to ensure components are practical and developer-friendly, with clear usage documentation
- Iterate on the design system as new product needs emerge
Requirements
- 2-4 years of UX/product design experience, with a strong portfolio demonstrating both UI craft and systems thinking
- Deep proficiency in Figma, including components, variants, auto-layout, and design tokens
- Experience designing for web (required) and mobile - iOS/Android or React Native (preferred)
- Familiarity with how React component libraries work - you don't need to write code, but you understand what makes a component reusable and developer-friendly
- Strong visual design sensibility: typography, spacing, color, hierarchy
- Clear written communication in English; comfortable working asynchronously across time zones
- Bonus: Experience working directly with a frontend framework, contributing to a Storybook, or collaborating on a component library build
Benefits & conditions
Salary: 1500 USD, no SHUI, no Tax (no 2nd job)
