Job description

Medix Specialty Vehicles is seeking to hire an Electrical Systems Integrator to support the design, documentation, verification, and integration of advanced electrical systems in custom-built ambulances. This role is responsible for aiding the development and maintenance of electrical documentation, validating existing and future designs, and supporting the implementation of new electrical options and features that enhance vehicle functionality, safety, and performance. The position may include the development and creation of schematics, wire diagrams, and logic control programs for emergency vehicle systems. The ideal candidate combines strong electrical fundamentals with practical hands-on experience and thrives in a fast-paced, moderately customized manufacturing environment., This Electrical Systems Integrator reports to the Director of Engineering and works as part of a cross-functional team that includes representatives from Sales, Sales Engineering, and Engineering to support customer orders from concept through completion. The role involves regular interaction with Sales and customer requirements, using documentation created across multiple software platforms such as AutoCAD LT and SolidWorks Electrical to establish system specifications. Responsibilities also include supporting the prototyping of new designs in close collaboration with the production team, coordinating with purchasing and vendors to ensure manufacturability, fit, and function, and translating finalized information into design packages used for production. This position operates in a dynamic and fast-paced environment., Electrical Configuration using Digital and Analog Control Systems

  • Develop, configure, and maintain analog relay logic along with programmable vehicle control logic used in ambulance electrical systems.
  • Implement and support software control logic for vehicle subsystems including lighting, warning systems, sirens, HVAC integration, power distribution, battery management, load shedding, and safety interlocks.
  • Configure and support multiplex and CAN-based vehicle network systems used for vehicle I/O and subsystem control.
  • Assist in the development and integration of operator control panels and HMI interfaces used within the vehicle.
  • Maintain clear documentation of schematic & diagram revisions, software logic configurations, and system changes to ensure traceability and consistency across vehicle platforms.

Schematic Design & Electrical Engineering

  • Design complete vehicle electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts.
  • Create and maintain electrical architecture documentation for standard platforms and custom builds.
  • Develop panel board layouts, harness routing plans, and power distribution systems.
  • Review and approve electrical drawings for production release.
  • Ensure design compliance with NFPA, FMVSS, OEM chassis integration requirements, and other applicable standards.
  • Support ECN (Engineering Change Notice) processes and configuration management.

New Option & Product Development

  • Design and develop new electrical options and feature packages (e.g., advanced lighting packages, inverter systems, auto-eject shore power, telematics integration, specialty medical equipment power systems).
  • Evaluate new technologies, components, and suppliers for integration into ambulance platforms.
  • Prototype and validate new electrical systems and programmable logic prior to production release.
  • Collaborate with sales, product management, and production teams to bring new customer-driven features to market.
  • Develop standardized option modules to improve scalability and manufacturing efficiency.

Integration, Testing & Troubleshooting

  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to integrate electrical systems into custom ambulance builds.
  • Conduct functional validation testing and system diagnostics.
  • Troubleshoot programmable logic, communication failures, and electrical system issues.
  • Support end-of-line functional testing and quality assurance.
  • Provide technical guidance to production electricians and service technicians.

Continuous Improvement

  • Improve existing electrical logic and schematic designs to enhance reliability, manufacturability, and serviceability.
  • Develop automation tools or testing fixtures to streamline production.
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective action initiatives.

Requirements

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, or related field (equivalent practical experience will also be considered).
  • 3+ years of experience working with vehicle electrical systems, control logic, or embedded systems in a manufacturing, automotive, or similar technical environment.
  • Proficiency in programming concepts, including development using either traditional code or logic-based GUI systems.
  • Strong experience designing electrical schematics using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, or similar platforms).
  • Strong understanding of 12V/24V automotive electrical systems, including power distribution, relays, circuit protection, and vehicle accessories.
  • Experience with CAN bus systems and multiplex vehicle electronics.
  • Ability to interpret and create detailed schematics, wiring diagrams, connection tables, and panel layouts that are designed for manufacturing and installation.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills., * Experience in emergency vehicle manufacturing or specialty vehicle upfitting.
  • Knowledge of OEM chassis electrical integration.
  • Experience with battery management systems, inverters, and shore power systems.
  • Familiarity with medical equipment power integration.
  • Understanding of electrical load calculations and power distribution analysis.
  • Experience with design for manufacturability (DFM) principles.
